What happened at your last job?...do tell. :)
Ha! I love the do tell, it so very British of you.
@ my last job, there was this woman who was very respectful of the fact that I was a JW. After some time she got a little more familiar with me...and started telling me certain things.
She first told me that her son was engaged to a girl who was raised a witness. Later on she told me she had been told facts a,b,c & d (all various misgivens).
Finally one day she asked me if she could get personal, so I said go ahead. Her question was whether we as witnesses, could do anything besides attending meetings and conventions.
I took the opportunity to explain that we participated in many different activities outside of the congregation (a few I mentioned: anniversaries, graduations, showers etc.).
This great look of relief came accross her face. After a short pause, she explained that she had been taught that we cannot o ANYTHING that "normal" people do. She further went on to explain that she, as the mother of the groom, didn't want to offend the parents by inviting them to the reception hence the motivation behind her question.
Throughout the office many of my female coworkers from various departments took an interest in me. Since I stll see them around town they often ask me to stop by. Hopefully my next opportunity I will take to invite them to a talk, since more than one have shown an interest in what goes on at our meetings.
Very cool. I find it interesting the misconceptions people have about Witnesses sometimes. Like, I've heard ones that have been easy to explain, and some were like "WHOA!!! Where in the WORLD did you hear that?"
Pretty interesting.
yeah my favorite is that we are not allowed to wear brand name clothing
bethelites aren't, and we can't to a worksite, like work days at assembly halls, quickbuilds...
well someone said that to me in highschool, like that someone they knew who was a JW wasnt allowed to wear brand name sneakers and is that true. And i laughed.
We can't wear brand-name clothing to quickbuilds and stuff? And I mean I can understand with the brand plastered on the shirt or whatever but.... i duno, i never heard of not being "allowed" to wear a certain brand or whatever
I'm not sure of the exact reason, but we're actually building a new hall right now, and they've made several announcements reminding us not to wear shirts or clothes with stuff written on them. A few people forgot, and had to turn their shirts inside out.
I see how this could happen. Keep in mind the geography. Jersey is different when it comes to things like that.
well yeah i know that, but brand-name clothing in general doesn't always have stuff written on them.... i don't really enjoy stuff with the brand name plastered across but i mean if i'm wearing prada socks no one will know right? haha... that's what I meant, like some people think we're not allowed to shop anywhere other than liek Walmart
i love wal-mart, i was playing football in wal-mart just the other day when i accidentally chose a two year old to be linebacker and block debassedbassist. what was i thinking! well nothing a few more diapers can't solve.
they just mean don't wear a shirt that has old navy plastered across the front. If it's a plain green armani shirt (don't know why you'd wear that to work in, but anywho)...it really doesn't matter, but it just can't say it where its visable...they don't want advertisements on the site.
exactly, tha'ts what i thought. but we're allowed to wear brand name clothing. Someone in high school said she heard I wasn't. I duno I was wearing NIke's or something I duno... and she was like OH MY aren't you not allowed? haha weird
