what if they sound like another friend of yours? What if they think you know another person with the same name that sounds like you? What if they have a bad connection, but because they gave you both their first and last names, you know it's them, even though they don't sound like them? What if they are sick and are stuffed up, or have laryngitis--you might need a first and last name to ID the "voice".

Chances are they use their full name at their job when leaving messages. It's a good habit. No confusion. Several times I've checked messages and asked "who the heck was that?!"
