I think the definition of a fruit is if it has seeds. Tomatoes are a fruit, so are cucumbers, peppers, etc.

technically: fruit
realistically: vegetable

it's like how when you ask somebody how they're doing and they say "i'm good". technically they should say "i'm well" because "i'm good" is poor english, but everybody talks that way. this metaphor makes no sense
