You could compare it to the way you say, "I am going home". The proper way is probably: "I am going *[to my]* home." Just like you say, "I am going to school", but probably should say, "I am goi...

Well, yeah, but I'm saying that I think the only two words you can remove the *["to my"]* in are "home" and "school". That's why I think they're exceptions because they're colloquialisms.
