tell her to use MYSPACE

i hear it's what all the cool kids are doing

thatdarngirl thatdarngirlOG 2002

Annoying.

specialk specialkOG 2003

Don't tell our District Overseer that.......he went off about it at our Circuit Assembly last month.

ilikebirds ilikebirdsOG 2002

Man even down there huh.. so it's pretty nationwide. good times.

thatdarngirl thatdarngirlOG 2002

Its nuts. I get buddy requests from people in Canada and random guys asking if I'm Indian.

specialk specialkOG 2003

Yeah....saw a funny shirt at Hot Topic today, though. It said "You looked better on Myspace."

thatdarngirl thatdarngirlOG 2002

Haha! Thats great! So true. I bet people steal random pictures of other people and put them up as their own.

web-toedchloe web-toedchloeOG 2001

Ugh - you mentioned hot topic, so I have to refer you to this

thefunkyfresh thefunkyfreshFounder

kinda funny. i don't like those self righteous "punks" who hate everything though

web-toedchloe web-toedchloeOG 2001

Not everything, just a store that proclaims to be "punk" and/or "hardcore" and sells only major label mass produced junk.

thefunkyfresh thefunkyfreshFounder

I was kind of commenting on not just the comic strip, but also his little blog

thefunkyfresh thefunkyfreshFounder

i do see his point but i think it's extreme, the comic is humorous though

web-toedchloe web-toedchloeOG 2001 thefunkyfresh

"the comic is humourous though" - your vernacular cracks me up.

ilikebirds ilikebirdsOG 2002 web-toedchloe

so are real punks angels now? and they burn up in fake evil punk stores?
or are real punks demons? and they burn up in real holy punk stores?

i've created a new term .. it's called "Haps"..
we're not emo.. we're not punk..
We're just happy human beings who live our own lives and don't feel the need to push our sense of music or style of clothing unto others, nor define our lives by it. We live to be happy and have fun and enjoy ourselves

YAY HAPS

I wonder if it'll be mentioned at our circuit assembly this weekend. I've heard several brothers mention it in talks. I had actually deleted my account for a while because of that.

web-toedchloe web-toedchloeOG 2001

What's wrong with myspace?

D
dgiaimoOG 2003

Nothing, per se. It's what some people do on it and use it for that's the problem.

web-toedchloe web-toedchloeOG 2001

Well, what are some people doing and using? Dating? I don't have a page and I rarely go on.

fivezero fivezeroOG 2003

it's my understanding that the organization feels it's a serious cause for concern. i had a myspace and i deleted it to avoid trouble.

web-toedchloe web-toedchloeOG 2001

They haven't mentioned anything about that in our hall; I guess I'll just wait for our assembly and CO visit to hear about it, if at all. I just don't understand specifically why that page is bad.

D
dgiaimoOG 2003

I'm not aware of it being an organization wide thing. It certainly has been a cause for concern in certain places. If it comes up at the circuit assembly I'll rethink having an account, but I've really only heard it in passing during talks about things that we need to be careful about.

fivezero fivezeroOG 2003

i think it'll get a comment from the big boys soon. watch out. i miss my page tho. it was devoted to Toshiro Mifune and the movies he's done with Akira Kurasawa. anyway, there are different, safer ways to keep track of friends and peep hot witness chicks, lol.

D
dgiaimoOG 2003 fivezero

Haha. Very true...

D
dgiaimoOG 2003

Dating is the big thing that I think most people are concerned about. Another is kids giving out way too much personal information that could potentially be used by predators. Yet another is bad association, which relates to the first issue.

Of course none of these problems is really myspace-centric, so blaming one particular website is going a little overboard, but I certainly understand why parents and elders are concerned given the popularity of the site.

web-toedchloe web-toedchloeOG 2001

Ahh, that was my thought, that the entire internet is dangerous for all those reasons, not just one site. I didn't realize there were so many friends on myspace. It's funny, I'm rarely online when I'm home, I just sort of assume everyone else is just as busy as I am with theocratic stuff, so it always surprises me when I hear how much time some friends spend online. I mean, I'm stuck behind a computer here at work, so I surf around this site, but I wouldn't spend as much time online at home.

socalgal socalgalOG 2003

hahaha i'm the same way....when i get home i dont even want to look at my computer.

fivezero fivezeroOG 2003 socalgal

yeah! the internet really chaps my butt cheeks

yeah, i think it's mainly the association thing + all the half-naked teeny boppers

web-toedchloe web-toedchloeOG 2001

Eww! What?!

iwz iwz

it's quite popular on myspace to have very risque pics of yourself on your profile. so if you look at myspace for 10 seconds, you'll probably run into some of them.

myspace is HUUUGE HUGE HUGE

juicymango juicymangoOG 2003 iwz

yeah there's what, 60 million people on it..

fivezero fivezeroOG 2003

ewww, yesss!!!

rocksupastar rocksupastarFounder

Thats why i spend all my half naked time in person and avoid the whole "online" thing.

thefunkyfresh thefunkyfreshFounder

yeah i know mike, why don't you put some pants on at work for once?

specialk specialkOG 2003

In our Circuit, it was mentioned that there were actual names mentioned of people, accusations made of sorts, rumors going around.....started big drama apparently. The DO didn't go into it too much, but apparently it was bad enough that people were hurt, and it wasn't neccessary. It basically could have been avoided.

jay79 jay79OG 2001

They actually did mention it in one of the last talks at our assembly this weekend (it was either by the CO or the DO). When I got home, my dad asked me about it, and if it was as bad as it was made out to be, and if I had a page on it. I guess its all in how you use it.

D
dgiaimoOG 2003

Actually, it was mentioned by our CO at the circuit assembly last week too. He didn't actually mention the name but he mentioned several high-profile cases involving the site, so it was pretty clear what he was talking about. So I finally deleted my profile. I didn't really use it that much anyway, so it's no big loss.

specialk specialkOG 2003

I just found out that a longtime friend of my husband's, who he recently got back in touch with after many years of being out of contact with each other, is an elder at a hall on the other coast, and he actually mentioned that he and the other elders in their hall peruse Myspace from time to time, to 'check up' on some of the young ones in the area, to make sure all is going well and no one's doing anything wrong.

Interesting.........

thefunkyfresh thefunkyfreshFounder

i've never been on myspace, but it just seems so incredibly lame

thatdarngirl thatdarngirlOG 2002

The only thing I like it for is that some bands now send out their newsletters and updates through myspace instead of their own website.

D
dgiaimoOG 2003

I dunno. I find it kinda cool to see how everyone is connected somehow. Also, it's a really good way to get info on bands. One of my friends uses myspace to recruit local bands for concerts, so it can be really useful. It's a shame that so many people have gotten in trouble on it.

fivezero fivezeroOG 2003

Knucklehead kids, double-lifers, apostates, etc. They ruin it for everyone!

iwz iwz

the same thing happens here, btw.

specialk specialkOG 2003

That's just interesting to me.....not that I have a problem with it or anything....I honestly think it's a very practical way to find out what people are up to, because a lot of times they aren't forthcoming with certain info. It's just another example of how bad this system is getting.
