Yeah I mean the first sister is closer to my age range...older but still pretty young. On the other hand an older more mature sister told me something similar and added that a majority of the perception or misperceptions of what one may or may not be getting can just be chalked up to immaturity. Also that obviously looks fade so there are much more important things to take into consideration when choosing a suitable mate (namely spiritual attributes). Not just being baptized or belonging to a hall but making your spiritual progress manifest,applying what we learn, and improving our relationship w/ ykw +) I luv that sister she's like my adopted mom (if my mom were only 5' lol!)

Ok. Well that's definitely true. I've never understood these girls that go gaga over MS's. Pretty much any brother that goes out in service regularly and is willing to do stuff in the congregation can become an MS. It's really not that special.
Then again, I haven't been able to become a servant, but I have a good excuse.
Agreed. Some brother's circumstances don't allow them to be MS. That doesn't mean they are not as worthy.
that's not true at all - or, at least, it shouldn't be. There are qualifications for being a servant, which a brother must meet. Those include being tested "as to fitness first", as Timothy says. I had to work my butt off to get to a place where i could be considered a servant. I respect anyone else who had to work hard to get to that point, as well.
My hall was never a hall that allowed "just a brother to show up at meetings and go out in service a little" to become a servant.
I agree - there's a lot of work that servants do that no one else sees, and they don't trust just anyone with those responsibilities. I think it has to do with a good example the brother sets too. It takes a ton of patience, and let's face, it a lot of brothers aren't cut out for that. I know I'd have to spend a lot more time working on my patience before I'd consider myself at the level of some of our servants.
Maybe the brother who gave a warning just meant that girls shouldn't look at the position a brother has and assume they still don't need to dig into his personality. The way someone acts with people at the hall isn't necessarily the way he acts at home. That seems like the spirit of the warning to me. I can remember brothers on the prowl for pioneer sisters and the same counsel was given.
It's all about where your heart is. Position means nothing to Jehovah. We're all equal. Jehovah uses such ones because their circumstance allows them to do more. Others have health issues or are single parents and that is not an ideal candidate to be a MS. Sisters need to dig deep. The ones who don't stand out or put in 20 hours a month in field service are sometimes pretty good too.
I think that's what I said. But even brothers who can't spend a lot of time in service or who can't have a lot of responsibilities can still "stand out" and be an integral part in the congregation.
I didn't say there aren't qualifications, I said they're not hard to meet. Especially for a single brother with no family obligations. I don't think I'm a shining example, and I don't think I've worked that hard, yet I was allowed a lot of privileges in the hall I'm leaving. If you are willing to fulfill assignments and are reliable, the elders will give you all sorts of stuff to do.
Yeah it's not like trying to hit a 98mph slider. If a brother applies himself, he can do it.
Maybe it's a little more difficult than you think... After all, if it weren't that hard, every single brother would be a servant, but we all know that's not the case. The title isn't a badge that says "I'm good marriage material", but it does show a certain degree of christian maturity.

What the brother was trying to say was, just because a brother holds "....." position, doesn't mean he's someone you should marry. Like sisters who hunt after anyone who has been at Bethel..okay, so they lived at Bethel..soo?
Again people's circumstances are different.
You would think that, wouildn't you? The sad reality, however, is that a lot of brothers simply do not want to be servants. The elders have a hard time finding brothers who are actually willing to do work, and are responsible enough to carry it out. Even those that do often aren't willing to reach out to be a servant. One of my best friends is like that. He is willing to do the work in the hall, he even pioneered for a year, but when the elders approached him to ask him if he wanted to reach out to be a servant he said no. We have had a lot of talks on circuit assemblies in our area about the need for brothers to reach out, and about how it is not difficult to qualify to be a servant if you really try.
BTW, I am, again, only referring to single brothers with no family responsibilities. It becomes much harder when you have a wife and/or children.
That's the maturity I was talking about. It's difficult to attain that mentality for some.
I guess. I dunno, I just don't understand guys like that. Personally, I think it's fun working at the hall, and would love to be allowed to do more. In fact, a small part of the reason that I am changing halls is that they can't make me a servant here, and I'm already doing everything that you're allowed to do without being made a servant.
I'm not sure what your talking about... there are two examples where the brothers were made servants when they just showed up at meetings and went out in service (although one was a pioneer he was involved in a relationship that neither set of parents approved of). Im not saying that they shouldnt have been appointed because the elders must have seen something there that others didnt see.
I definately remember the "just because they got dipped" part. About just a week before I think when the Watchtower was talking about making good decisions in various areas (include mate selection) a brother in my hall said something very similar. At first I was like WHAT? got dipped in what? (can't tell ya what I was thinkin' before the cobbwebs cleared LOL)
