Get to know the kids intensely well....they might be your responsibility as well one day, and you need to know what to expect, what you're getting yourself into. And be honest,....if you aren't ready and don't think you can handle it, the sooner you say something, the better.

Along these lines, do NOT pretend to like the kid(s) to get to the parent....we WILL find out, and quickly.
