Anyone do international texting? Does it cost any more than domestic texting? I'm trying to find out the most cost effective way for when I get an unlocked Treo 650. Looking to get the best rate for US to UK voice calls as well as US to UK texting.
i believe it's .25/message for international, sometimes it depends on what carrier you have.
Best rate for calls, I find, is ALWAYS through a phone card. Buy one for $20 from Walgreens, wait till the weekend, call and chat to your heart's content.
(Alternatively, I suppose you could get up really early in the morning, while free nights and weekends still apply - depending on the carrier, it probably ends at 5:59 AM.)
.25 cents? or .25 dollars?
uhhhh .. i meant 25 cents per message
hehe, have you heard about that Verizon fiasco?

you have to listen to the phone call with customer service. it's sad how SO MANY people couldn't grasp the idea that $.002 is .002 DOLLARS, not .002 CENTS. hehe.. i was literally smacking myself in the head while listening to this at points haha
I forgot to post this. I especially appreciate the memo
Okay. Another question if by chance you'd know this too.. If I get a fowarding UK mobile number for my US mobile phone, can texts be fowarded? 'Cause I know I can purchase a UK fowarding number to ring to my US number (I found one service for $3.00/month and 4 cents a minute). I wonder if I'd be able to receive texts to the US phone from people in the UK using the UK number. But, I'm afraid it just might work for voice and not text.
Obviously I could purchase a prepaid International roaming SIM, but the fowarding method will work out cheaper.
good question. I suggest just trying it. or, why not have your friends in the UK sent a message to yourphonenumber@yourcarrier.com ? that would probably work better.
Hmm, okay. Thanks for the help you were able to give. Hopefully I can keep in contact with them without breaking the bank. I received an unexpecting text message last week from London, and was disappointed I couldn't reply back, because of my bare bones Nextel.
Oh, you reckon my Nextel SIM (iDen technology I think) will work on a GSM phone? (I'm awaiting shipment on an unlocked Palm Treo 650 - GSM Quad Band I just bought on eBay) I don't expect the Nextel SIM to work, but would like to know if it happens to work since the Nextel contract doesn't expire until Summer 2007. Worse Case scenerio I'll carry both phones around with respective SIMs til that time comes.
That's was weird timing.. the shipment just arrived
nope, won't work. sorry dude.
you'll have to get a Cingular SIM card, or a T-Mobile SIM card. Or, you could get a British carrier's SIM card - that'd work too.
OK bummer. I'll have to carry both phones until summer then, since my business relys on my Nextel phone number. I don't what to get for the Treo yet tho... either US Domestic SIM & a UK fowarding number, or an International Roaming SIM with UK number. Hard to weigh out the pluses and minuses and what's gonna work out cheapest for regular voice calls and texts to and from the UK.
