So Tyler had to have an allergy skin test yesterday, where they test your skin by dropping 47 different oils of possible allergens on his back, then pricking each drop to see how the skin reacts to it.
That is a horrible thing to have to watch your 7 year old deal with......oh, and he's allergic to cats, and has to get allergy shots every week for the next 6 months or so. Yipee.
aw chica, im sorry. i had to get that done a few times. its horrible. and im ticklish on my back so it was a WONDERFUL experience. LOL
is he going to get allergy shots?
when you say "back", do you mean like "back" as in, "that girl got 'BACK'". That kind of back? um. Don't answer this. ;)
hahahahaha
Yeah, he starts the shots after the first of the year.
Thankfully, it's all at the Mayo Clinic, so not only does my insurance cover it, but he's getting taken care of by a top notch doctor. :)
oh chica, in the long run it'll be the best thing. im so allergic to "envoronmental" things, trees, grass etc. but when i first started getting them i was so sick with the allergies then in time was better and was able to be out in the "environment" with out getting sick.
anyway long story short, i'm getting the shots again cause my insurance changed like 4 years back and now im getting them again. the cool thing, they dont hurt.
they did that to me when i was in middle school. i had to get allergy shots for a couple years
They say that after a while the shots can sort of tone down the allergies, so they either aren't as bad, or almost go away.....did that happen with yoU?
they said i was developing asthma, which i don't really have any symptoms of now, however i do think i have a weakened immune system probably from that and from taking so many antibiotics when i was younger. i used to get sick a lot, and i faked it a lot and had a stupid doctor that would just prescribe stuff
Funny thing (but not really), but they actually had that same concern with Tyler, because he had asthma when he was younger. He grew out of it, but they said it's a risk in the long run, because it might return. The kid has an awesome immune system so far....he rarely gets sick, and if he does, it's a small cold or soemthing, maybe once a year. But even as a baby, never had those gross 'kid colds' with the snot and sniffles that other kinds had, haha.
So maybe it'll work out....I just hope the asthma doesn't come back. I'm trying to explain to him that having an inhaler isn't a 'cool' thing, haha.
yeah definitely make sure he doesn't overuse that stuff, only take meds if absolutely necessary
Yeah, it was either the shots or the meds, and I hate having to put him on daily stuff....I try to avoid that if at all possible.
i have had ashtma since i was 8 and they say it wont go away because i grew into it. but they continue to try to get me to take things regularly and i'm always like, no no no no no just an inhaler and one inhaler would last like 1 year or so but i've noticed that they've definetly reduced the amount of medicine they put in the inhaler so i have to keep going back so they can keep trying to put me on regular medication.
Does he have to get the shots because you guys have a cat, or because he's allergic to something else?
We don't have a cat anymore....he was always around my mom's when we lived with her up until he was 3, but he's also allergic to some trees and weeds common to he southwest. It's basically a hayfever issue, with the cat thing thrown in, haha.
He's always sounded more 'stuffed up' to me than normally, so I just figured it was time to get it all taken care of, haha.
Ahhh... that makes sense. I asked because some people are masochists and have cats even though they know they're allergic. I hope the shots help!
Me too....the doctor was concerned at first, thinking it was our 3 dogs...thankfully though, he's 100% ok with doggies. :)
I've had this done a ton of times, only on my arms though..hm.
I've never got the shots, though, but I was thinking about this just yesterday and how maybe I should because I have to take allergy medicine every day and that is kind of ridiculous.
Also, probably better to do it now because as someone pointed out to me last night, as of next spring I won't have insurance for about half a year..yay!
