can i ask you why you wanted to get out of PA as soon as you moved in? My mom and I are talking about moving out there

Lots of reasons. First, it's too close to my in-laws. Second, the area feels like it's full of senior citizens (as evidenced by the fact that Bethlehem is holding a "Senior Fest". Seriously.). Third, the education level and therefore pay scale is lower and the cost of living is rising too dramatically to match pay. Overall, it's just not metropolitan enough for me. The joke about there being no culture is totally right on. Philly is ok, but it's nothing like New York. The congregations are different too - people are much more sensitive; they lack that east coast edge that I'm familiar with. It's just not a place I want to be. The town is nice; I could see retiring here. But I'm nowhere near retirement, you know?

That's funny how you worded that about Philly because after really checking out Philly this past weekend, I kept saying how Baltimore is a cool city but not comparable to NY, but Philly definatly is comparable. There's so much action and so much going on, with sites & art museums (3rd largest in the country), restaurants and colleges, i think it's an awesome city.

Ehh, I don't like it. The only really cool neighborhood is South Street, whereas just about every neighborhood in NYC (except the upper east side) is trendy enough to just walk around it. Plus, 98% of restaurants in NYC are good because there's so much competition - I've eaten at some pretty crappy Philly restaurants because the food industry isn't as competitive there.

I totally disagree with the "98% of restaurants in NYC are good". I have been to many mediocre NYC restaurants. I have also been to many absolutely fantastic NYC restaurants. It's maybe 60% of NYC restaurants are good, i think.

Ehh, we agree to disagree.

ahhh, okay. haha

lower that stat. 75% or so. i've been to a few crappy places that i THOUGHT were going to be nice. it pays to prepare, if you can. 98% no way.

Luv Philly I just don't get to go that often...interesting new factoid most of the people I'm getting to know are all residents of PA with the exception of one who's a few minutes outside, over the Jersey border. I'm gonna be border hopping a lot this summer =)
Provided gas coast permit =/

gas coast permit? what is that?

originalsnob originalsnobOG 2004

This is why editing would so rock. The original thought was meant to end "gas cost permitting" =)

aaah. now i get it. i thought it was something about how in p.a. you have tp pump your own.
