oh yeh, I had forgotten why I logged in.

does anyone know how to convert DivX file format movies to something editable.. like mpeg or whatever (probably ideally mpeg because I think avi is more limited as far as programs that recognize avi file format... what if I end up taking the stuff I do on Windows and move it to my friend's Mac to continue the work).

what i have is several DivX short movies that I want to be able to cut and piece together... so in order to do that, I'd have to import them into like Windows Movie Maker... but you can't import DivX file format into that program... (probably other programs where you can... but I want to be able to convert the file format to like mpeg for instance, because maybe other movies that I want to use later on for this project will be in avi or mpeg and not divx)

Thanks if you can help me with an working answer.

i haven't done much video editing, but if you just want to do simple things (like cutting), you could just edit the DivX directly with VirtualDub.

if you want to just convert DivX to MPEG you can use TMPGEnc

Thing is I want to also use movies in MPEG format to insert scenes.. some movies are MPEG, some are DivX, some might be Avi... and want to use all the movies together.. so need them all in one format.. which I think ideally would be MPEG. Then, once I'm done with the editing, I'll be burning to DVD.

I'll check out that TMPGEnc. Thanks.
