if i was going to buy a laptop i'd buy a macbook

theremin thereminOG 2002

I'm still not convinced into buying it as 'my one and only.' Mac serves a purpose, but I think I'd only buy one if I the cash to spare after getting a Windows based. For music composition and recording, and doing graphics... yes, MAC might be my best bet (for graphics anyway... and music wise.. they look cooler on stage - whether not they work better with music or not... I don't really know) (So, the dream would be to have laptops of both ilk) Overall, I think I just have to go again with Windows-based since I'm only really barely ready to get one laptop. At the moment, I have a IBM Thinkpad on my eBay watchlist, as of Friday and ends today. Don't know if I'm gonna bid or not... but on the watchlist anyway.

BRAND NEW LENOVO IBM THINKPAD T60 CORE2DUO T7200 4GB RAM 2,000 MHz 160GB HD
Windows Vista Business
15" Screen
CD-RW/DVD Combo

Let me know what you think
And how much I should stop my bidding at, so I don't overpay should there be a bidding war - 28 bids made on it so far - so there's definitely already heated competition.
I think I've only lost like 2 ebay auctions tho, in my life.

Well, I missed bidding. I've had a rough week (between work and someone hitting me yesterday causing a 3 car accident on my way to work just a few weeks after I had a deer crash) and overslept... actually woke up in time to bid but totally forgot about the auction, so kept going back to sleep. So, I'll hafta wait for a similar auction now. The closing bid was $1,001.00 ...is that a good price?

i'm going to say "no". you could definitely find a laptop from anywhere else with 1 GB of RAM, and buy the 4 GB of RAM yourself from Kingston.com and just install it (that would take 2 seconds).

Ian mentioned before (and he's correct) that Vista will see a max of 3.2 GB of RAM anyway. So I wouldn't stress too much about getting 4 GB of RAM at this point, 2 should be sufficient.

I'd also look for a laptop with a DVD Writer (this one didn't have it), SD card slot built in (if you have a digital camera or Treo, this is a must), and video memory (which this laptop did have).
