This is like when one moves, and subsequently moves to another Congregation - the Congregation one has been with all their life & so many of the friends still see you as someone's child and not their own person who can stand on his own two feet* - but then in the new Congregation, there's still comments like...oh...so who are you living with? But, thankfully to keep me sane and have enough pride for the balanced amount of self-esteem...."are you visiting from Bethel" ..."a servant...an elder?" Thank goodness, for a portion of those that actually afford me the credit of being an adult man.
*thus having thoughts like "why are you moving...you aren't getting along with your parents!?" and "ooooh, so you're all are your own now...good for you! what, are you sharing a place with a few brothers up there?" (:::no, thanks very much... I have actually lived out on my own before...and how old do you really think I am...I'm nearly 30...I think I can manage all alone living in my own apartment, thank you:::)

I've tried to get my number changed to the local area...but no 718s available! And, how cheesy is 347 or 346 or whatever it is (just kidding hahaha)... like when Elaine has to get a different area code assigned to her, 'cause they ran out of 212s and they only have 646s.
Area code envy....like when people in London view you by your postcode (so don't tell them...if it's a undesirable postcode the reponse is...oh. if it's a desirable postcode, the response is...oooh posh) soooo wrong

Overlays are silly, but just think .. at one time, 732 and 908 were overlays. there was only 201 and 609 back in the day (1990 it changed, i think?)
hahaha The first area code for Toms River that I remember growing up was 201...then Toms River changed to 908...and then to 732, which is still at present.
I remember both times when the area code changed, everyone complained about having to get new business cards made up.
I refuse to change my area code. I only live in Vineland. I'm not FROM here. Besides, I've had the same cell # since I was 18! I don't ever want to change it.
i think the only time that matters is for job applications. but as holding on to a phone number forever becomes more common, i think hiring people won't think twice about what your phone number area code is.
Yeh, I'm one that thinks that the area code can mean the difference between an interview and your resume going straight to the shredder. So, where possible I've purposely left out a contact number and address, and just have my name and email address on the top of the resume hahaha
Oh, but it's for reasons like this (applying for jobs in NYC) that I tried to get 718 ('cause at least could mean...hey, this guy lives in Brooklyn, since Brooklyn shares the area code with SI), and when T-Mobile told me they don't have any 718s, I said, then do you have (it was even more of a shot in the dark..but...) 212??? 'Cause then, it'd look like I live in Manhattan baby!
Of course the answer was "no" (well, actually when no SI 718s were available he said what other area has 718 & I said Brooklyn, so he looked for a Brooklyn number but didn't have those either)..."but we have 347."
I said, well, I guess I'll try at another time. He said wait, don't you want a 347? I said, eh, no thanks... I need 718. That's like the trademark, no one recognises 347. It still looks weird.

Wow. I keep getting a call from a number out there but, whoever it is doesn't leave a msg. I looked it up but when told me LI I thought it was just a cell number that got assigned an off area code. Turns out it's a non pub landline =(

this is true. in such cases, I use our home phone number. I just hope it's never a male interviewer calling because dad is very suspicious of men calling here and thus not so nice.
