those aren't phone booths. they are video phone booths. they have them in england and venezuela. it looks like a telephone booth, but it's got a little screen on the phone with a camera. they're only used to do video conferencing with other phone booths in the same building. the whole point of the movie was them figuring out how to videoconference with their office in redmond, wa, before they got laid off.
