Just to clue you in a bit, very soon users will individually be able to say: Don't show me posts marked as Stupid, Off Topic, etc.

So, try to mark things as what they should be. If there's a thread talking about a particular subject, and the conversation branches off into something else, mark the first post as Off Topic. If somebody responds with something completely off, like "feet" or "fish", mark it as Stupid.
