Isabel remains a Category 2 storm with winds of 105 mph (169 kph), according to the National Hurricane Center's 5 p.m. EDT advisory. The center issued a hurricane watch from Little River Inlet, South Carolina, north to Chincoteague, Virginia.

The storm's center was about 570 miles (917 kilometers) south-southeast of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, moving north-northwest at about 8 mph (13 kph), the National Hurricane Center said.

Forecasters said further weakening of Isabel is expected Tuesday but warned that conditions could become favorable for strengthening as the storm draws closer to the shore.
