Mike Doughty Acoustic Solo
Hoboken, NJ, 07030
This is my favourite singer/songwriter, from my favourite band.
Mike Doughty, former frontman of Soul Coughing has a show coming up at Maxwell's. I've seen him on a number of occasions, and he's fantastic. Soul Coughing's music can be heard on the movie soundtrack albums of Tommy Boy, Batman and Robin, and X Files, just to name a few, aside from their own 3 full length albums, and their greatest hits album, which was released just last year. Doughty's collaboration with BT (Brian Transeau) can be found on the Gone in 60 Seconds movie soundtrack. He collaborated with They Might Be Giants on "Mink Car." These are just some places the music can be sampled, but his shows are totally different, since he stands alone on a small stage with a small acoustic guitar. Also, many of the songs he performs aren't even on a released CD yet, although some of the songs come off of his solo debut album, Skittish. He performs a few, choice Soul Coughing "classics," as well, at every show. Super Bon Bon not being among them, since that song is clearly a "big band" song, not a "small rock" song. You may've heard Circles though too, and he'll most likely do Circles. An Acoustic Café peformance and interview of Doughty, can be listen to here (if you have RealPlayer). His Mp3.com page is here so you can sample more music. He's written a book of poetry back some years ago, which was re-released not too long ago, and you may wanna check out too.
Tickets for this show can be purchased in advance, from TicketWeb.
