Where Are You From?
I always find it interesting finding out people's backgrounds/ethnicity/birth place. So I'd like to know where the eZabel community is from.
I'll go first...I was born in Huntington, Long Island, NY. I lived there all my life, up until January 2005..now I'm in York, PA. My mom was born in Vita, Sicily, my dad was born in Brooklyn, NY. I am 100% Italian. (Technically, I am 75% Sicilian, 25% Calabrese-my dad's mom is from Calabria, Italy) My grandma told me, we are also distanly related to the royal family in Spain. But, I have no idea how.
Oh, that's another question, is anyone related to anyone "famous" as in-a relative to a signer of the Declaration of Independence...something like that.

I am Swaki! (prolly the only one you'll ever meet!)
Born'n'raised in Vancouver.
Mom from Switzerland, Father from Pakistan. Thus Swaki!
I get away with fitting in with alot of different cultures (dark hair, light eyes), but I don't feel I belong to any one. :-(
I didn't 'get it' as child but, I was always prompted to say, "My mom is Swiss, my father is Pakistani, BUT me I'm Canadian" As a child I always thought where you were born is what you are. Innocent times!
i'm 50% italian (mom's side)
my dad is mostly irish with some english and i think i have an american indian ancestor too

Poet Ralph Waldo Emerson is one of my ancestors (great-great-great-great-uncle or something)
Color me impressed, Kelly. Color me immmpressed.
haha
btw, i love the definition that trillian has for "haha"
An onomatopoeia of the english language to mimic the rough sound of human laughter. Often used in instant message chats to express laughter. Haha has found increasing usage in SMS messages between cell phone users to express the same.
Can also be expressed as hahaha. Additional ha's can be added to the root haha to express an increase in laughter duration.
hahaha, that is way too much information and makes me feel empty inside
No idea, "haha," could be so technical. Funnily enough, me & my pals had a discussion the other day on "ok" (alt spelling: "okay"). We went as far as looking it up in Oxford Dictionary. Then we gave up on the discussion, and went onto unrelated topics. We would having fun at the time. Promise.
zuh?! *wakes up*
Wow you were born in my town and I wasn't, pretty funny.
also the kellys are supposedly related to john wilks booth through marraige....so technically, i killed lincoln.
your mamas afro killed lincoln
Wait OMG! this is alex kelly lol...I'm so late hey!
50% Ecuadorian (dad's side)
25% Irish (mom's side)
12.5% Scottish (mom's side)
12.5% German (mom's side)
I was born in Morristown, NJ, on 7/9/1979
I was raised in the truth, and just left home congregation to help out the Spanish hall. It's easier said than done, though.
hahahaha

12½% spanish
12½% puerto rican
lived in joisy all my life...mostly central (edison, metuchen, fords, highland park, linden, rahway, piscataway), but i did a 3 yr stint "down the shore" (asbury park, bradley beach, neptune).
my french backround is by way of louisiana which is by way of canada. there was a french revolutionary named jean valjean that is in my family line. my mother was named after him (ValliJean).
my dad got the truth first thru a high school friend. my mom studied and got baptized when i was about 2. dad stopped studying and moved out. i got baptized when i was 15. (unfortunately, dad died when i was 9...but i'm looking forward to studying with him!)
here's some trivia: my mom was baptized at the first circuit assembly at monroe, ny (1972, i think); i was baptized at the first circuit assembly at jersey city, nj (1985)!!
Wow.......I was 5 when you were baptized.......wow......
hehe, i was ! when he was baptized
dude i was baptized in monroe...

I like LA but my area is so gherttoo, lol. imma get some picturesu p so u guys can see
Plot where you are in reference to the EZabel Community -
this cracks me up cause on my side of the country it shows LA as a major city (normal) then they show Corona (not normal on a map) right next door when it's WAY inland. LOL
WAIT!?! You're sicilian? Remind me never to piss you off..
haha, yo, i gots some connections too. lol not really, but we do personally know a couple people wanted and killed by the mob. weird to see it really exists.

you wish you were cool enough to be siciliano.

reminder: you don't say this whenever you come to parties at my house.
i'd never
I still think America should attack Sicily next.
Never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line!
every blessed sicilian i've ever met is either very, very nice. . . or completely insane
Hahaha - I totally have to watch that when I get home now!
whoops i read this as silicon.... sorry
What I know today:
Great Great Great Grandfather (Father's Father's side) immigrated to Little Egg Harbour, NJ from what was then Belfast, Ireland and is now Belfast, Northern Ireland.
Grandmother's (Father's Mother's side) family are German, and after living in Austria for a while, came to America. She was either born in Germany or when they were living in Austria.
Mother's Father's family are Welsh descendants, as the maiden name claims, but don't have more details at present. And, mother's family claim to be partly Native American, but I haven't be able to find out which tribe.
I was born in New Jersey.
IM FROM CAPITALS OF THE ALPHABET HEAR MY LETTERS TAUNT YOUR DREAMS GARRRRRRR
I was born in Dover, NJ on September 20th 1979 into a family line of Hungarians, Irish, Scottish, and English. Supposedly I have an ancestor who fought in the French and Indian War back in the 1750's. Interestingly I am the only person in my family with red hair. I'm probably the mailman's kid.
so i am 50% irish. a trait only seen in my three sisters with red hair. most people cant tell that its the majority of my makeup. 25% italian (which expalins why i tan better than some of the full italians on here.ahem mike) and then 25% puerto rican. i give that part of the heritage homage to good dancing and a smooth tongue.
claim to fame? my great grandfather invented a contraption for the plane that makes it stay level when it flies. unfortunately to the fund the research for this project he had to sign away all his discoveries to the company that funded it so while the fam would have been billionaries, he just got a settlement check.
airplanes? you lost me at the end of the first paragraph.
you lost ME at hello... helllooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo NURSE
Nurse was the best part of the Animaniacs. Her and Chicken Boo. And Rita and Runt.
make up ur mind... you are a Animaniacs **woman of the night**
s'funny how you censor youself BEFORE you hit submit. that's a good habit. weird tho.
this is the new eZabel censorship... get used to it, lol.
compare arms NOW my friend... im TAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN baby!!!!
you cant even spell tan. it only has one a dodo brain. and plus my pigmented skin is already darker than you before the summer starts so deal with it. im better.
My mom (Afro-american(Gula-)+ Blackfoot Native American),
( Afro-american+ Irish American+ Cherokee Native American)
My dad (Afro-Latino Afro-Cubano/Sud Americano)...
Born n' raised a Jersey girl through and through. My mom and my grandmother (mom's mom) are Morristownians but, for some vauge problem dealing with the blood issue I was born in Newark.
Also I SWEAR Samuel L. Jackson is related to us, I don't care...he looks just like my uncle Richard (JACKSON). We did have a distant cousin who
was a professor at some college out west but, too many details LOL!
your mom told me that Samuel L. Jackson is actually your father. long, long story.
Your mom told me your adopted, SON!
mom?
My dad is 100% italian, my mom is euro mutt. Mostly English, German Italian and other stuff.
mmm, euro-mutt
50% of me is motherboards and chips, about 10% wires, got a good dosage of C++ pumping these actuators, my parents are both metal
He's a DROID!!!!
I'm a mutt....no joke. There's such a huge mix of backgrounds with me, I'll try to remember them all.
Grandma (on mom's side) is 100% Polish. So that makes me like, a quarter, I guess. I dunno. Grandpa was English and German, hence my massive amounts of freckles when I get some sun.
My grandma on dad's side was Irish (and that's where I get my SUUUUPER fair skin tone from) and Native American (Cherokee), and my grandpa was just plain old English.
My mom's maiden name is Yale, and we're related to the Yales that started the university. Also, waaaaay back soemwhere, we had some big-time pirates in our family. Like, with the boats and pillaging and all. And some of my Native American family fought at Wounded Knee (so I'm told, but I haven't actually checked that one out yet).
sweet so if you prove your native american ancestery your son can go to college for free. all you need is 8%
Oh yeah, I'm more than that. But my college years have passed....sort of.
I'm some Native American, but I haven't gotten to point of "proving" as of yet. And, I still don't know what tribe. Otherwise, I would already've applied for Canadian citizenship, 'cause I understand that Native Americans qualify for it, since most tribes were nomadic back and forth between America and Canada. I know someone that got the dual citizenship 'cause of that.
if you had canadian citizenship then you could go to cuba.
oh man i would love to have pirate blood!
My mom is italian from Bayside, NYC, her family's from Positano, Italy. My Dad is from NJ his family is Irish and a few other nationalities
I was born in Massachusetts and lived in Littleton until I was 16. Then my family moved to Ramona, CA in 1995. In 2000, my parents and I moved up to the bay area. On January 1 of this year I finally moved out, and into my own place in Hayward.
I'm 62.5% Italian, 25% Greek and 12.5% Irish.
my father invented the question mark
LOL
Dad was yellow
Mom was yellow
I'm yellow
And my uncle is bruce lee.
My dad's family is pure Irish. My mother's family is Russian and Romanian. While I guess all the history is cool I was never (and still not) into my background/heritage. My grandma isn't like a little Russian grandma..she's a crazy woman who lives by herself in the Bronx. And the only Irish things about my dad's side is that they drink beer, have crazy tempers and are strict Irish Catholics.
My mommy's grandpa was a stunt-double in silent movies and he had lots of land out in CA but the deeds got lost somewhere at somepoint :( He also did the electricity work on the George Washington Bridge.
you know you can check for unclaimed property on california's state website or whatever, if the property is still in your family's name you may still own it. Woot!
Oh wow! I'm so totally going to. Just gotta figure out what his last name was cause I don't think it was my mother's maiden name. Does that make sense?
hmm yeah if someone knows what his full name is, that should work i guess
But don't they like..sell the land after a few years?
"California Unclaimed Property Law does NOT include real estate property."
Sad.
what the heck? what it only includes fake estates or some crap? wut wut wut
oh weird
It's really weird..it includes like locked bank boxes and stuff like that.
i was born and raised here in socal, lived in the OC my entire life. i'm spanish, french, mexican and aztec indian. i've heard we have some german, but its not enough for me to realize it's important.
my moms side they're european, spanish and french and her whole side of the family are very light w/light eyes. my dad's side comes from mexico and i get the aztec indian from him....and my height.
hmmm, famous peeps? well my great great great great (??) grandma rode with pancho villa and heard she was one of the meanest women ever. LOL and oh yeah how can i forget, we WERE heirs to the Corona Beer fortune BUT they sold to the japanese.....darn japanese are taking over the world! lol
I'm half Greek and half Italian. My great grandparents on both sides were the last generations born in Europe.
My great grandparents on my father's side were from the island of Miteline (or Lesvos) and both of their families were from that island too. In fact, my great grandparents were betrothed from the time they were children. To get to the USA, my great grandfather lied to get into the army when he was 14, stowed away on a navy liner, and "deserted" when they got to Newark, NJ, where my family lived until about 1988.
On my mom's side, my entire family was from the same village about 50 miles south of Rome. I've never know the name.
So basically, I'm a mediterranean girl married to a German/Pennsylvania Dutch boy. Very odd couple.
Oh, and my grandpa was in an episode of "Kojak". That's his claim to fame.
I was born in San Jaun, Puerto Rico in 1980. Mom's mostly Puerto Rican, with some Scot-Irish. Dad's Puerto Rican with some English. Both of them were born in Queens, NY. They just ended up in PR for a while. Most of the males in my family are named Edward. My middle name is Edward. No one did anything AMAZING in my family, I don't think. My uncle played for San Diego Padres in the 70's and he umps now and then. That's all I can think of. I'm a funny mix and I definitely think I came out funny. I'm the lightest person in my whole family and among the very few who don't speak fluent Spanish. My family hates these facts. No one I run into ever guesses that I'm Puerto Rican and was born there too. It takes convincing.
you are very light. although i can't recall ever seeing you spanish dance.
i'm not great, but i get by
wow, a real puerto rican..and you are so white! lol
i get embarresed when i'm not tan, and i tell people i'm italian...and they say i should be darker. (i COULD be darker, if i got into the sun more, i dont burn!!)
I am so sick of Jahanna telling me she's italian :)
I am half-Jewish and half-portugeuse - that's what I say anyway. That's not true at all, it's just easier and stops people's rude questions.
my grand-uncle was jacob javitz, of the jacob javitz center.
wowza! jacob javitz! coolio.
it drives me nuts when people are all "yeaaaaaa, i'm italian or spanish" or whatever..yet, they know nothing about the culture, dont speak the language, have never been to the country. so annoying.
kids in my highschool would walk around with italian flag necklaces & patches on their backpack, drove me nuts if they werent REALLY even remotely italian.
I am 50% Jewish (25% Romainian - I identified with my people in the yearbook- and 25% Hungarian), Irish, Cape Verdean, Portugese, Native American (Cherokee), Russian, and I cant think what else. Also, Im not 100% sure because records were destroyed and the Bible says that its not important to know, but our family is supposed to have descended from a tribe thats mentioned in the Bible.....
you are just a big liar. stop making me look as if i don't know what i am.
you dont know what you are (your the one who went around for two years telling people you were puerto rican)
everyone knows this, but
i'm 100% Polish, born there, moved to NJ when i was 11, lived in differnet spots in NJ ever since. Oh yeah and I lived in Scranton PA for 6 months a few years ago.
das it
if i have kids they will still be like 75% Polish because Chris is part Polish
yay for poles
i'm famous, and i'm related to myself
haha, when me & austin decided to get married, thats one of the first things i said to him......"great, if we have kids, they will be "poluted european" haha so i said, they had to be raised italian. lol
plus, austin says he's really just a mutt american (although he has a french last name) so annoying.
yeah i'm forgetting my Polish, which makes me sad but i really don't have time to keep up with it :(
but if i have kids i am gonna teach them as many languages as I can, lol... esp. since little kids can learn more than one language super easily
i'm weird though i hope i don't have kids because they'll be nerds hah
Ready?
Irish (Thus the Patrick. From Cork.)
French (My last name is spelled Paro but was originally spelled Perrault)
West Indian (Kingston and Montego Bay)
German (Das Berg)
Scottish and English somewhere
I don't know after that. I did have a grandfather that was raised on an Indian reservation but he was not.
Born in Jersey (I HATE THAT) but lived in the BX my whole life until now i guess, in my apt in Mt Vernon (where DMX is from).
As far as famous, one ancestor founded St Paul, MN (Pig's Eye Pieront, look him up) and my mother's grandfather is to this day one of the most notorious guards at Riker's Island.
My grandmother was 100% english, as far as I know. She married an american.
My other grandparents are basically just american mutts, but I think there's some german (Zabel is a german name), and another eartern european country or two in there. Also some jewish.
And I have a distant grandfather who fought at the Alamo.
hmmm according to ancestry.com, you have a great grandmother who was a brazilian belly dancer
if your family is related to the royal family in spain, how are you 100% italian?? oh wait i forgot, spanish people are italian!
as far back as we can trace, everyone is italian, my gramma always told me that, maybe one of my ITALIAN relatives married someone spanish. I mean, if yo want to get techinical, i'm sure i have .02% peruvian and .003% czeck in me too, cuz after all, we ALL do have the same ancestors.
the hasburg family came to be the royal family in spain after i forget which family died out and they were austrian and italian. there's a hole section of madrid called new madrid where the hasburgs ruled from because they werent purebred enough to rule in the old part because their austrian and italian heritage. maybe somewhere in there is where jahanna fits in.
haha! SWEET! thankyou for the clarification dear! hehe
Yeah..and there's the whole "hapsburg" and "habsburg" family thing..they're both the same tho I think I just spelled them wrong. Buncha inbreds ruling over all of Europe.
Thats just one little part of it.
I'm getting all into this. Accroding to Wikipedia (best site ever!) the Hapsburgs ruled:
As Holy Roman Emperors
Austria
Hungary
Spain
Portugal
Bohemia
It seems to have originated in Switzerland. They ruled the Imperial Throne of Rome from 1273-1291, 1298-1308, 1438-1740 and 1745-1806.
Ok, so when the bookstudy mentioned this week how there were empires that ended after world war one, this was one of the major three it was speaking of..
Aw, you guys don't have history buffs in your bookstudy? At mine we got all into it- naming different nations that we new of. I just took Modern Western Civ this past semester so I remembered a lot of stuff.
A lot of the great empires were around until WWI- that's when they finally crumbled. However, before that they had been on the decline ever since the French Revolution which was truly the start of the people trying to force a democratic system upon monarchies.
After WWI the map of Europe was re-drawn like a kid with crayons. Whole empires were dissolved and new nations were formed based on groups of people (and cultures) instead of just this monarch wanted that land. So, the Ottoman Empire (which was truly still the remnant of the Holy Roman Empire) was dissolved. The Austria-Hungary Empire was dissolved. Poland came out of nowehre. Germany became a nation instead of part of an Empire. Crazy stuff.
I'm reading a book set in the 1600's and they talk about the royal families of europe. they were all ridiculously inter-related. And often inbred.
If you look at the Royal families of Europe as of the start of WWI they were pretty much all related. The King's of England, Germany and Russia were all first cousins.
