So, it's up in the air right now if we are building a house or staying in our current house for another year or so.
But either way, I want to spruce things up. I don't really have a great decorating eye. I definatly know what I like, and I think I have a lot of great pieces, but it's putting it all together that I don't do so well with.
Does anyone have any kind of...standard tips they go by. Or have any resources that they have used?
Right now, the whole house is "Egg Shell" and it's been driving me nuts for the year & a half we've lived in it...but to resell as a rental property it's better to have it neutral...but Austin has given me the O.K. to paint.
So this is what I'm thinking...I want to do the 3 walls of the kitchen an apple red, then the 4th wall that leads into the living room a pale yellow...and have that continue up the stairs (to where the bedrooms are) And I want to do my bedroom a light olive green. The bathroom a darker green. The second bedroom...I don't know what color yet...maybe the same pale yellow.
Now, is there some kind of decorating rule, that certain areas should or shouldn't be the same color? (i.e. the bedroom one color, the hallway another, the 2nd bedroom a third color, the bathroom a 4th)
This is long, and unclear...but any suggestions would be helpful!

this is one thing i love...decorating! if you're going for a bold color like reds, alwayst just paint one wall so if you're not overwhelmed with the color. also remember, red conveys "anger/frustration" so if that room is one of your favorite places to be, you'd want to make it cozy :)
yea, that's true. I changed my mind. I'm going to do it a deep olive green on the three walls. Then still pale yellow on the fourth. It would fit my kitchen better. I have a lot of olive/grape type decor. So green is better I think.
also never paint the ceilings of rooms. it makes the space look smaller and enclosed. always leave them white to make the room open up.
I disagree there. If there's nice crown moulding at the top, a dark color on a ceiling can actually make the room seem taller. If the eye is drawn up, and there's other vertical lines in the room, it can seem cleaner and more sophisticated.
depends on the room. if you have high ceilings you can get away with it, a lot of times it looks better
I luv this post!!! I'm in a very nesting mode right now. Everytime I enter a Home Goods or any home essentials department anywhere I go nutz. Technically I'm in packing mode, been collecting boxes for a while just starting to get down to business. I was thinking of decorating before I leave to. I'll prolly carry over whatever concept I come up w/ =D
you're moving?
It's in the works =) I'm pretty excited.
deets
where are you moving to?
In the works, don't want to count my chicks before they're hatched. I'll confirm w/ details soon enough.
Kinda need pics of the rooms to visualize.
