A profile of a man with genuine initiative

I heard a talk this week given by our District Overseer. I just thought you all might like to get the gist of it...

Henry Adams: "Teachers effect eternity-no one knows were their influence stops."
we grow because people share what they use with others

touchstone: test purity of gold, silver
rub ore on it, depending on mark left on stone-tell worth
standard to judge quality or genuineness

Ezekiel 9: secretary sent to mark
symbolic of work done by anointed today
application of Bible knowledge-dedication & baptism
constantly cropping bad aspects of personality out

Col 3:23-whole-souled requires zeal, fervor, initiative
witnessing to other language groups

*Jehu and Caleb* Who had genuine initiative?
JEHU zeal yes
fervor yes
whole-souled no
2 Kings 9:6-8 Jehu executed both kings
Jezebel introduced Baal worship, she too perished
she gave a veiled threat by calling him Zimri (because Zimri was killed-see Insight book)
Jehu ran over Jezebel after she fell & then went to have supper
2 Kings 10:28 all Baal worshipers were killed on the spot
2 Kings 10:29-31 Jehovah was pleased, but not happy with his sin of calf worship
kingdom divided-Jeroboam instituted calf worship to keep his people away from Jerusalem and the temple as an easy political solution

Are we looking out for God's interests or our own?

Peter returned to fishing after Jesus was gone

CALEB
Numbers 13:17-25 report on Promised land was good, but 10/12 spies said land is not for us, people in it are big and strong
verses 30-32, 14:1-4 people distraught
14:6-9 feel the zeal in his voice, whole-souled spirit
14:10 wanted to kill them, silence them
14:24 "spirit" dominant inclination, disposition
do things Jehovah's way
"wholly" completely, whole-souled, fully
40 years later.... Joshua 14:6-8 & 9 Moses gave testimony to Caleb
verses 10-12 strong even in old age
asking even for mountainous region because he had confidence in Jehovah

Hebrews 10:24 & 25 pay attention through application

conclusion...We should desire to expand our ministry

i understood it but i'm sure it was just tons better to hear all the connective devices. its just hard for me to read anyone else's notes because the way i take and understand notes are completely different.

true...what usually happens with me whenever i read someone else's notes is that i end up doing additional research.
