Does anyone have dental coverage with Aflac? Do you like it? I just signed up here at work. Seems like a good deal. I can keep it even if I leave this job, and it's like 10 bucks a week taken out pre-tax. I can go to any dentist. =D ANNNND I get 75 bucks back per cleaning.

I don't have to pay for office visits, only lab fees. But if I were a normal dental patient, i'd hate having to pay up front and getting my money back later. It is nice being able to go to whoever you want. Restrictions stink.

**For those of you without dental insurance and avoiding going for visits due to high costs...if there is a dental/dental hygiene school in your area, call the clinic for appts. Fees usually run from free to 40 bucks. That's like 50% off. End of public service announcement.**

i'm kinda wary of that b/c theyre not 100% dentists yet....what if they slip with the drill???? or put the novacaine shot into an artery?

Believe me, students are more careful than anything. If they screw up their grade gets docked. If a licensed dentist messes up, they can blame it on bad teeth or other things. Whatever the reason, they still get paid. Having seen the difference from school to the "real world" I know that you are can guarantee good care by a student.

And it's a pretty determined dude who administers anesthesia in an artery, now a nerve is a bit easier...

(Thank heaven dental hygienists don't give anesthesia in NJ! I thought I was gonna have to take a class on it.)

I just usta have a dental phobia, got over ir when I started to need root canals. They charge so much to kill a tooth! And I cant afford a crown everytime. SO this dental school thingy might be a good alternative ....

It is, and if you need a crown I recommend getting one. Yeah, they are expensive (around 600 or so). But when you get a root canal, the dentist removes all the pulp from the tooth-which is the blood supply to the tooth. When that is gone, your tooth becomes brittle and prone to breaking. The crown protects that from happening.
