Order in the Court
So today was my first trip to the courtroom. It was for a speeding ticket (52 in a 25). It was a very scarey experience. There were tons of other teens my age who all had there provisional lisences too (which makes the ticket so much more scary since they can just say 'byebye lisence') but all their parents were there with them. Not mine, I was there alone.
I quickly made friends with the prosecutor dude who advises me on whether to plead guilty or not guilt (not guilty was my plea) and basically told me what to expect. I hearted him. So my name gets called, judge was a nice guy. He's like "i wish i could drop all charges, but dear, you were just going so fast". He droped 3 of the points (so I got 2 points instead of 5 points) but the price was the same ($155-NOT COOL). All and all, it wasn't as bad as I thought.
Any one else have to go to court for fun stuff like speeding?

i remember one time mike got pulled over for driving a saturn. the cop says, well u weren't speeding because this pile obviously can't even reach the speed limit, but i'm pulling u over cuz u suck. now i'm gonna arrest u and you're going to jail. but the other cop said to him, look this kid is obviously gay, prison will be a haven for this guy. the other cop said, yeah, driving a saturn is punishment enough, get outta my sight ya fudge packer!!
hahhahahahahahahaha! that was so funny... poor mike!
whoa! this was nuts. funny stuff. i'll say it just because: butt pirate

i'm gonna have to agree with dan on this one lol :P
wait, i was the one who did the laugh... and i just explained it... so to agree with dan wouldnt be the smartest thing to do... although... its not the stupidest either....

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHA.... if you only knew....
I've only had to go to court twice and both times it was to observe for school so my only experience with a court house were good ones because I got to look at some of these people and just laugh at the crazy things they got tickets for.
Does anyone know why they lower the penalties on speeding tickets and the like? (I just learned 2 weeks ago in my criminal procedure class it's rather interesting)
no.. why do they lower the penalties?
because the court gets too backed up. thats what they do for more major offenses as well...plea bargain. (i'm a law student, haha)
Yup. That's pretty much it. they get you to plea guilty to a lesser penalty so that they don't have to go through the whole process of a court battle and there is a chance that something the state has to prove they won't be able to. For example if the officers radar license is expired. I thought it was interesting though most people probably won't. lol
because you pay more money ...
hey hun, glad to hear court turned out better than expected! well I've gotten out of a few tickets, so i'm thankful for that and it's also because i know a few of of the guys in the PD in the city i live in so i've been pretty fortunate. BUT there was one i rec'd a month ago. I was in another city (about 2 cities away from where i live) and the cop pulled me over to chit chat....well he was so annoying and i jsut wasn't in the mood for it and he asked for my #. so instead of playing along i was annoyed and told him to get lost....well the sucker proceeds to give me a ticket for "speeding" yeah right....anyway long story short, i called one of the guys i know from the PD dept and they gave me awesome advice to fight the ticket
just say you're dyslexic
sorry that was wrong
but a viable defense, like saying she's a girl in jersey....
