Manual or Automatic

originalsnob by originalsnobOG 2004 · Jul 29, 2004 · 271 views

Although I am fairly sure it is not a matter of gender but, rather a combination of comprehension and coordination the question still presents itself:

Manual or Automatic, why or why not?

My position: MANUAL ALL THE WAY (me, baby Silvia (my Elantra), and the open road)

i'm in the process of learning manual because my car is manual. but it is a lot of fun and i like how it gives me more to think about while i'm driving so i'll focus more but... i don 't like hills. i loathe them. i feel they're trying to make my car keel over and die. especially stopping on hills. with the whole using the e brake thing. maybe evuantally i'll learn to love it but this week, i'm hatin it.

yodasucka #15.1 yodasuckaOG 2003

i hate hills too! when i was first learning stick... i staled out on this hill by my house 3 times! right in front of my friends house... i felt like a retard! and all 3 times i couldn't do it and the guy who was teaching me had to switch places and drive the car up the hill... oo i hated that stupid hill!

perrin #15.2 perrinOG 2004

Once you get used to it and get to know the car hills are no problem.

yay #15.2.1 yayOG 2004

yeah i used to love playing around on a hill too rocking back and forth at a light, makes people behind you very uncomfortable

tinser #14 tinserOG 2002

automatic, because i've only been taught to drive manual once, and that wasn't enough

but, i think its really really hot when a guy drives manual...i dont know why

superhero #14.1 superheroOG 2004

listen, i know you want me, you don't have to make up this thing like "oh guys who drive manual are hot"

tinser #14.1.1 tinserOG 2002

haha, why must you always see through me?

aviator #14.1.1.1 aviatorOG 2004

yodasucka #13 yodasuckaOG 2003

AWWWW the joys of sisterly affection ;-)

socalgal #12 socalgalOG 2003

i don't like neither. i want a plane or helicopter

aviator #12.1 aviatorOG 2004

haha well if you want to fly a plane i suggest flight school. I have been thinking about it and the steps are usually they get you flying a glider and then a small cessna and eventually maybe some more complicated planes.

socalgal #12.1.1 socalgalOG 2003

i have a friend who owns and sells planes

yay #12.1.1.1 yayOG 2004

he is in the plane industry

aviator #11 aviatorOG 2004

manual 6 speed 6 pak carburetor with 2 side inlets and a holly with dual exhaust

hunkpapap #10 hunkpapapOG 2003

i miss my manual, that was my baby..

yay #9 yayOG 2004

I've saved myself from many accidents with manual transmission. Not only do I feel like I have more control over the whole car with a quicker reaction time but also can stop very quickly.

superhero #8 superheroOG 2004

ahhh it's much nicer in traffic to not have a stick...seriously...especially when talking on hte phone...shifting and talking never works...

but man, you're flying up skyline drive in 2nd, is there ANYTHING better...

yay #7 yayOG 2004

manuals are great as long as you're not driving in north jersey ha

perrin #6 perrinOG 2004

Manual all the way. I love driving a manual. They are just so much more fun to drive and another upside is manuals usually get better gas mileage as well, which is great with the way gas prices are now.

flomojopoanode #6.1 flomojopoanodeFounder

ah, but gas mileage varies indirectly with fun level. The more fun I'm having, the less gas mileage I'm getting...if you catch my drift.

superhero #6.1.1 superheroOG 2004

you have a 6 cylinder maxima, right? in my integra, the amount of fun i had driving didn't reflect in the gas mileage at all...

i think having a 6 cylinder car is only worth it if gas is less than $1.50/gallon ***regrets his v6 purchase***

flomojopoanode #6.1.1.1 flomojopoanodeFounder

haha, yeah, my 6 cyl is great fun, though! And since my exhaust is...practically falling off, I sound like I've got some real power. SOUND is the key word, though. It's bark is worse than it's bite. What 6 cyl purchase did you make?

superhero superheroOG 2004

i have a 2000 626. i wish i had just worked out to get a used 2003 6i. ahhhh keeping the eye simple is hard

thatdarngirl #5 thatdarngirlOG 2002

I don't understand the point of driving manual if you can drive automatic. I don't know how to drive manual and I never care to learn.

modestjesse #4 modestjesseOG 2004

Depends on the car for me at this point. I've been driving a stick for the past 10 years. I enjoy automatics and being lazy from time to time, especially during traffic. And many automatics today have a nice jump off the line. So my next car I'd get an automatic, unless it was a 4x4 or sports car. A jeep is not a jeep if it's an automatic. And a mustang isn't a mustang unless it's a stick. There's a great feeling of control in a stick that I love, especially on the parkway. Good times. :)

beachbum #3 beachbumOG 2002

i love manual. i never want to go back to automatic. haha sometimes when i have to drive an automatic i almost forget what to do.

perrin #3.1 perrinOG 2004

Yeah me too. I hate driving an automatic I always feel like I'm forgetting to do something and always want to try and do something with my left foot.

forrestina #2 forrestinaOG 2002

automatic bc no one has ever taught me manual =(

yay #1 yayOG 2004

It is from my inner most complicated dispositions that neither sausage or neighbor of ham will correctly eriticate the immense social problems we have with garden hoses.
