Assembly/Convention Food

forrestina by forrestinaOG 2002 · Dec 14, 2004 · 220 views

My assembly is this weekend. As I love food, I can't wait to make my meals. I usually make an Egg McMuffin (I can call it that if I want!) for breakfast and bring an OJ and a piece of fruit. For lunch, I pack a salad and some cheese on the side. I bring wraps so that I can wrap up my salad without letting it sit in there soggy all day. Terra chips or some variety of veggie chips on the side. Of course I often toss one of two in the wrap-gotta love the crunch factor. Snacks vary according with my mood: pudding (the offical snack of Assemblies and Conventions), applesauce, grapes, peanuts and raisins, honey and oat bars, FRUIT SNACKS, m & m's or raisinets, cheezits, pretzels, Smartfood White Cheddar Cheese Popcorn. Mmmmm I can't wait for the weekend. =P What do you pack in your sack?

And like, why did this filopino sister, bring those cornish hens for lunch, like, i had a whole bird on my plate for lunch. haha, nothing against pinoys, i'm half. phhlpt. But yah!! i got joked, for the whole turkey on my plate deal, since us filopinos share food at the conventions always. blah!

He he variety is the spice of life...HA! Seriously it's so funny various cultures have this great need to nourish. I know some Jamaican families and they do the same thing but, instead it'll be like rice & beans and chicken or GOAT! LOL

I like to keep it simple. Turkey sammich and Arizona green tea.

specialk #5.1 specialkOG 2003

That's Adam's lunch too. He LOOOOOVES those green teas. :)

suchgr8heights #4 suchgr8heightsOG 2003

turkey Wawa wrap, baked lays, arizona green tea, orbit.

The basic lunch for me is a turkey sandwich, chips, grapes, cookies, and maybe a cheese stick.

But that salad and cheese thing sounds good. Maybe I'll try that for our assembly in January. The problem with eating the sandwich and stuff, is that it fills me up SO much, that I'm really sleepy the second half of the program.

no the salad is yummy. i might skip the wrap and just bring a fork because of how much i love my new favorite salad: romaine (or whatever green you like), feta and/or bleu cheese, almonds, golden raisins, balsamic vinegar.

specialk #3.1.1 specialkOG 2003

Mmmmmm....I am a HUGE fan of balsamic vinegar. I've recently started taking the bread we serve at work, and dipping it in balsamic vinegar.....YUM!!! Wow...I need food.

thatdarngirl #3.1.1.1 thatdarngirlOG 2002

I love doing that with bread!

I used to help serve that food! It was sooooooooo fun! Sometimes it was crazy though...to see brothers and sisters getting all mad because we were out of pudding. We're out! I'm sorry! Nothing more to say, move along!

I remember the cheese danishes at the stadium in Phiily, I think. Can't remember where for sure, but I remember it was in PA.

fivezero #2.1.1.1 fivezeroOG 2003

Thats my fondest memory. Cheese danish and the frozen orange juice cups in Philly.

specialk specialkOG 2003

i felt as if i had won the lottery when my pudding was frozen. it was an ice cream suprise in the blistering heat of the Vet.

socalgal socalgalOG 2003

OMG the cheese and apple danish....when i see those it remids me of the assemblies. What about the egg mcmuffins they had for b-fast??

socalgal #2.1.2 socalgalOG 2003

yeah i remember helping out too! it was SO much fun!

originalsnob #2.1.3 originalsnobOG 2004

Swiss Miss, if I recall...chocolate, vanilla, or tapioca!

originalsnob #2.2 originalsnobOG 2004

My favorite was the bean salad...and the danishes in the mornings.

suchgr8heights #2.3 suchgr8heightsOG 2003

I always wanted to be an ice cream server but by the time I was old enough they did away with it!!

beachbum #2.4 beachbumOG 2002

i miss those chicken sandwiches and slushy OJ

malibu #2.5 malibuOG 2001

i feel like my kids won't trust me when i tell them, "yes back when i was younger they served us food at the assemblies"

but i always remember my mom would always get some of the leftover food and she would always get all the roast beef subs and i HATE roast beef. unless its a french dip. then it doesn't taste like roast beef and i like it.

and i loved the apple danishes.

i go down to deli plus-lunch heaven

web-toedchloe #1.1 web-toedchloeOG 2001

It's ok for you guys to leave during lunch? They make a huge deal about us not doing that.

beachbum #1.1.1 beachbumOG 2002

at the conventions we're not supposed to leave so we don't do that. but they don't say anything about it for the assemblies. we always see tons of people we know down at the deli.

thatdarngirl #1.1.1.1 thatdarngirlOG 2002 informative

It's not a problem for the assemblies. It's a problem for the conventions because the venues pressure the society to have the stands open and their response is "we don't need to everyone brings their lunch from home" but when they see people leaving to get food it ruins that.

web-toedchloe web-toedchloeOG 2001

It really annoys me that everyone doesn't get that. 50% of my congregation went out for lunch this summer, and their reason was that they were staying in a hotel and couldn't make lunch. Crap! It's such a horrible witness.

Suggestion when staying in a hotel: If you can't do PB sandwiches or you want something more substantial, find a deli or other small place near your house that will make you lunch at breakfast time. Pack a cooler with ice bags (the hotel will put them in the freezer for you overnight). We found a deli near Nassau coliseum and bought our lunch with our breakfast. No rules were broken, and everyone got killer sandwiches that stayed fresh until lunch time.

thatdarngirl thatdarngirlOG 2002

Yeah, it's real simple. Just go out before the assembly and get your food. Keep it wrapped up and wahlah!

I know for a few years they just told us not to go out. That should have been enough reason not to. Now they had to start explaining why not because just being told not to obviously wasn't good enough for some reason. Obedient in what is least here people.
