Create-CAKE-tivity

Family Circle keeps sending me magazines. Every so often I'll glance @ a recipie but, I'm a lot LESS adventurous than I once was.
Anyhow, there are these AMAZING creations that don't even look like cakes, and supposedly any average wife can make them. The most recent was a cake that looked like a fishbowl with little fish swimming inside, gravel in the bottom, and seaweed on the side. In the past FC has also had a cake that looked like a hamburger, one that looked like a footlong subsandwich, all very interesting & supposedly eadible. Recently I went to this restaraunt that I love and they had an amazing variety of cakes to choose from Geen Tea, Blueberry pillow, Almond "cheese cake", the list goes on.
I have a great-aunt who's specialty used to be a pineapple upsidedown cake, not terribly original but definately not terrible :)

I have a new found interest in cake making/baking I'll definately take some suggestions.

I can't make suggestions cos when I was vegan I just stopped eating the stuff. All my desserts are extremely non vegan friendly.

I have a recipe for vegan cake and icing somewhere... I might dig around for it. It's hard not to use eggs in cakes, though. You can use applesauce and extra canola oil as a substitute, but if be sure to cover the flavor of the apple with another flavor; like add brandy or powdered sugar or another flavor extract. Almond paste is great.

Hehehe, isn't this breaking the rules of feminism? Shouldn't we all be able to bake at least one type of dessert "from scratch"? I dunno...I was looking for less traditional recipes that were really successful.

socalgal socalgalOG 2003 ·

not at all. now i could see if i didn't know how to cook, THEN that could be a problem. i can bake from scratch but i don't have the time to do so.
