by Okay, so I finish bartending school today and that means I must go get a job. I know how to make lots of drinks but I don't know what they honestly taste like (I know what they're supposed to taste like) so help me out. How can I recommend something I have no clue about? I don't know ingredients to lots of drinks, but I guess these are just common sense:
juice and vodka drinks are fruity with a kick. they kinda sneak up on people.
gin drinks are generally strong with something to cut the strongness, but only a tad.
rum = creamier drink, richer taste
they taste YUMMY! lol

Grapefruit juice and vodka is called a Greyhound.
best way to figure out what someone would like is to ask them what their fave taste is. do they like sweet, tart/sour, etc? never ask if they like strong drinks cos they'll always say yes and they are not always right. also, for the most part, people have a favorite liquor and like things made with that. i dunno these are just things i learned from catering to people that come over.
realistically speaking people are going to get the same drinks over and over again. you're not going to need to know half the stuff you learned.
concurred. people have a drink they like and they stick with it. something from the bar at my restaurant is that every woman in jersey is in love with martini's. every type of them. and cosmos. so as long as you got those two down and you're working here, youll be fine.
