throw out the microwave

i have found that life without a microwave prevents me from buying and eating quick meals full of preservatives

and also I live about a 2 minute walk from an salad/thin crust pizza plce where everything is locally grown and organic and AMAZING and that's where i get my lunch almost every day

i'm still fat but at least i'm not eating lean cusines

we have a farmer's market near our house (forest you probably know it, it's on river st.) and they have great food and awesome prices for fruit and veggies. highly recommended.

yeah, a lot of things that are outlawed in other countries are allowed in the US, like certain food colorings preservatives and fake flavors

our daily recommended sugar intake is also way higher than the rest of the world.

Ethnic groceries (probably just as expensive as organic domestic food tho), I just thought of. In case you're a denied asylum seeker haha

eat organic i guess...although it is expensive. and i could never switch from skippy peanut butter to that flavorless organic crap. i guess you could just eat mcdonald's all the time, cause they say they dont have trans-fats, lol.

i read a very disturbing article on food yesterday at the doctor's office... http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/4148164.stm ...it really creeped me out, and made me angry at how arrogant mankind has gotten. they think they can do anything! i personally would never eat lab grown meat.

well we grow a lot of our food during the summer and what we don't grow we get from local farm stands so that's not too bad. it's more the processed foods that we are going to do our best to avoid: crackers, cookies, condiments, and especially anything we don't get to read a label on. I didn't find anything from the FDA, but I read in several news articles that packaged foods that say No Trans Fats can have 1.5% Trans Fats.

gross! "Scientists believe the technology already exists to directly grow processed meat like a chicken nugget."

maybe that's how we'll be able to eat meat in the new system...

Probably the only solution...Move out of America

forrestina #1.1 forrestinaOG 2002

Summer told me that the book compared Americans with the French (I think it was) how much they spend on food plus how long they take to eat. Yes, their food is more expensive, but then they take time to enjoy it more. The culture of fast-food America won't change.

i also heard that because americans take on average half the amount of time the french do to eat, they have a much higher risk of heart disease.

forrestina #1.1.1.1 forrestinaOG 2002

yes despite the fact that they eat food just dripping with butter.

I used to drink coffee black but ever since being in England, I started drinking "white coffee" (coffee with milk) as they say. Actually I've pretty much totally phased out coffee...but yesterday I had breakfast at a diner and coffee just seemed to suit. Well in telling the waitress, I asked, Can I have that with skim milk. She said, No, we only have whole milk.

Wha!?
Ok, right...well

See, just goes to show you things are messed up with American eating.

So, an obvious one, but ever more true after experiencing that yesterday...don't eat out. I've actually recently intended to strictly watch my 'eating out' frequency. Yesterday was like a 'one-off' but just goes to bring me back to reality..something like that.
