Spring Moon

I forgot to recommend this book. I read this in my English class in 12th grade. I thoroughly enjoyed it - that is when my love for all things Chinese began.

This book starts with a story about a young girl in China in the 1890's and continues as her life goes on through the mid 1900's.

It's an extremely long book, but I remember I just couldn't put it down. It's great.

The book is "Spring Moon" by Bette Bao Lord

excerpt of a review:

"Spring Moon, by Bette Bao Lord, tells the story of a woman living in a world bound by tradition. It takes place in China during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The main character, Spring Moon, tries to find herself in a society torn by revolution. In the face of conflict she discovers herself and she realizes that some of the old traditions of her family are not realistic for the new China her people are fighting for... The book revealed information about Chinese history, culture, and Chinese traditions"
