I missed posting our spring book club books. This month's book is Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut. I am not all that suprised that I never had to read this book in high school (since they barely cared to do anything with arts in my school-even language arts...). I did not expect to like this book at all. I am typically not a fan of novels about war and it's affects on the human psyche (excluding Ender's series). This book, however, has managed to capture my attention-it even had me laughing out loud at parts. We are meeting to discuss it on the beach this Sunday. I am sure I will finish it by then. It is short, but does seem to take a lot of concentration.

Has anyone read this? Any questions for discussion? Comments on the author or book?

The one thing I can't remember is the literary term for a repeating phrase.

In regards to the literary term for repeating a phrase.. might it be "radif?" Apparently it's used in Urdu poetry and the term to describe it is "radif" and it became an adopted English word to mean the same thing I guess. I of course found this out with Google.

I've read lots of Vonnegut books, this one's great. If you read any Vonnegut, I say read S5, Cat's Cradle, and Mother Night. Mother Night is probably my favorite.

The only Kurt Vonnegut book I've read was Cat's Cradle, but it was awesome. If you like dark comedies, I highly recommend it.

That's the only one I've read as well. Very weird but enjoyable.

I love Kurt Vonnegut. I think what's so great about the book is that he takes a fantastic situation and mixes it with every day occurences, so the reader re-examines everything he does. At least I did.

Repeated phrase - do you mean refrain?
