Ender's Game series
I read Ender's Game last year and loved it, and then Ender's Shadow this year. It was just as good. I'm now reading through Xenocide, which I've heard is a lot different from Ender's Game because it doesn't focus on military strategy and stuff, which is true, but I'm still finding it just as enjoyable as the first book. It's not too often that I make it through 140 pages of a book within the first week of reading it (I only get time to read for maybe 15 or 20 minutes at a time).
I love this series! I've already bought all the rest of the books in the series and am looking forward to them. Seems I've also gotten rock supastar hooked, haha.
So, maybe we could discuss some of the finer points of the series (without any spoilers) in this thread, as I know at least 2 people here have read Ender's Game.

So I'm reading "speaker for the dead" (I know, weird title, right?) which is the sequel to Ender's Game. It's pretty cool. It's different from the first book, and I believe that you could probably read it without ever reading the first book, though the first book would give you a lot of insight. Anyway, either I'm a sap, I was too sick to control myself, or this is a great book. I could agree with all three, really, but I'm sticking with "this is a great book". In just the first 3 chapters, I've already cried! YES, CRIED! It's such a sad situation, this girl is in a checkmate, she's got nothing to be happy about. It's really rough. I can't wait to finish it.
I got the whole series coming in the mail... i cant WAIT!!! woohoooo should be here any day!
It's actually 'Enders Series', and the first book is Ender's Game. DId you know dashboard confessional has a song called " Ender will save us all "... reference to ender ????
hence, me LOVIN that song...
NEAT! not everyone here is that messed up and cold
so you are saying that i am cold cause i like dashboard, i think you are insecure about your sexuality.
yea i am.. i'm not sure whether i love women or chairs
hey man, chairs have four legs.. and.. so do cats... go figure.
this was actually one of the things that got me interested in the book
did you know that your mother gave birth to you
as soon as i saw this title i thought of dashboard cuz he IS in fact christopher ENDER carraba...and yes..that is one of my favorite songs of all time.
oh, darn...i always thought he was cool and it was a reference to star wars
Hmm, I'm going away for a vacation of relaxation (unlike unassigned territory) and I will have about a week to do whatever I like. Do you think I should read a book or two of this series? Where do I start? (by the way, Ian has gotten me interested in a number of books already, and I trust his picks)
Definitely read Ender's Game. feel free to borrow it. from the library! OHHHHH. haha, just kidding, you can borrow mine.
lol, "oh, you". I think you just got me really excited about reading this book. Thanks, bro, we'll figure out when to do the exchange. (you get either nothing or my book "the relik" in exchange for my borrowing your books. Yay. Sounds good, huh? btw, I never read "the relik")
oh, I guess I should explain something. When I say that Ian has gotten me interested in a number of books...well, that number is 2. He got me to read "the princess bride" which was great. I loved learning more about the characters from the book--for instance, just how GOOD is Inigo Montoya at sword fighting? Or, how did Westley become the farm boy? I also got hooked on "the hitch hikers guide to the galaxy" but I only suggest reading the first. It ends quite awkwardly, but the whole book is hilarious. But the sequel gets old really fast. I can't even imagine reading the other 3 books in that series. Nonetheless, I still loved the first book, and I do suggest it to anyone and everyone. I guess this comment almost deserves it's own thread, but oh wellllll.
Hey, you can actually read the first chapter of Ender's Game here http://www.hatrack.com/osc/books/ender.shtml
flomo, did you check this out?
yeah, I read it, it sounds good. I'm out in service all day tomorrow....is there any way I can pick up the book...or maybe on Saturday (we have our pioneer day that day)

Just finished reading Speaker for the Dead. Wow, that was a powerful book.
do some research fellas! they're making movies out of this franchise. all i've seen is that they're gonna have Dakota Fanning as Petra.
shes the little girl from "i am sam" and "uptown girls" right?
thats her. lil cutie. she's also in the upcoming kevin smith movie, jersey girl!
has anyone been able to find any info on this...
ian what would i do without you...i guess id have to learn how to google more efficiently haha
hmmm... lesse: umm gooogle.. ummmm ender's game uhm movie. let's try that. Wow!
yea man, you seriously did get me hooked. I loved Enders Game and im half way through Enders Shadow right now. So incredible, these books are great, cause for the most part they keep moving and i love the way that the story makes sense TOTALLY at the end, but keeps you guessing all the way through.
I order John Sundman's "Acts of the Apostles" and "Complex Devices". I saw the review on Slashdot, and they sounded really interesting. can't wait to start them.
link?
yay! I just got them in the mail early. gonna read them this weekend while I'm at my parent's hopefully.
I own the whole series and LOVE it. Xenocide definitely goes more into politics than the other books. I like Orson Scott Card's style of writing because I find the connections between the characters very intense. I also like how he develops the stories behind the characters-not telling everything at once but having stories from their past dispersed throughout the books.
yeah, this is true, it's a good style he uses to get you to know his characters.
hmm. I've been very tempted to read this series for a while, maybe I'll start. But i've been wanting to get into the Rudy Rucker *ware series for a while now. ughg. so many choices.
good things about Ender's Game is how fast it is to read. I actually finished it in like 2 days while I was camping. I think you could sneak it in there before you started another book.
