Neurotic book readers

perrin by perrinOG 2004 · Feb 25, 2004 · 232 views · ·

I don't know about anyone else but I have some neurotic tendancies when I read paperback books. I have to be very careful with them so as not to crease the covers or put a crease ih them. I spread the pages out and am very careful to make sure that the cover never creases. I also have to be careful to not bend any of the pages. The funny thing is if I lend someone a book and they do it it doesn't bother me it's only when I read it. I'm not really sure where I got this from, or why I started doing it all I know is I do.

Anybody else have any wierd things they do when they read?

This amused me, because in life, i am pretty anal. lol with keeping my car/house clean, neat, uncluttered. But i destroy books, magazines. Bending the cover behind the book to hold it comfortably with one hand, crease the page to keep my spot, etc. ha, weird.

After I read a book that I own, I have to put it on the book shelf really tight with other books so that the cover lays down flat. I hate when it sticks up

I'm just like this, but I take the OCD to a higher level...I don't like loaning my books out to friends cuz I am afraid they will mess the perfection that I have worked so hard to preserve.

Wow someone with a higher OCD level than me my sisters would never believe it. lol

I even iron the creases out of the jacket of a book, it drives me nuts. If your sisters want to confirm my OCD, i'll ez message my phone number to ya.

Wow you really are worse than me. Though I can be pretty bad but that must be the next level. You must be an OCD master. lol

hahaha. when i read books, i tend to write in them. when they described images, what they remind me of, similiar stories that seem like the one i'm reading, predictions, key phrases, quotes i like, themes, questions i want answered. i fold the pages and crease the bindings. and on the back cover of the book (if there's no writing) i make a list of characters just so i can remember who they are.
i do all this with books i personally own. but i usually bother books from the libraury and i can make it through without turning down a page.

even all my school books. i get old copies so i can write my notes all over them and then the school scraps them at the end of the year. some clases i don't even keep a notebook cuz everything is just in the book.

hahahah. i know. after reading how neurotic you were i was thought, "man he would die if i read one of his books."

wow, you'd hate me...i bend the pages to keep my place

As long as I don't do it it doesn't bother me that badly. I do that but only in reading the yearbook so I can mark the pages of experiences I really like. I can't figure out why it doesn't bother me doing it there though.

i don't line anyone putting creases in my books, it bugs me. Like folding a page, etc, that would make me want to hit them over the head with the book

See I can't seem to figure out why but it only bothers me when I do it. If someone borrows a book from me and does it, it's not a big deal. My friends make fun of me all the time for the way I am about this. Sometimes when people borrow books from me they always joke around that they ruined the book thinking it will bother me but it only does when I do it myself.
