Did anyone notice how many of the movies nominated for the Best Movie Oscar were books first?

Seabiscuit (an aaawwwweeesome book) was first a book by Laura Hillenbrand.

Return of the King was of course based on The Hobbit books by J.R.R. Tolkien.

Lost in Translation (ok, nothing here)

Master and Commander, was taken from the swashbuckling novels of Patrick O'Brian.

Mystic River is also a novel by Dennis Lehane.

Also Cold Mountain (one of Laura Hillenbrand's favorite books BTW) was also a book first.

What's up wit dat yo?

Lost in Translation wasn't a book first. That's why Coppola won for best original screenplay.

Return of the King won for best screenplay adaptation.

i read the Hobbit back in grade school but the others i have not read

The hobbit is the only one I read of his books too. Though it was really good but I just never read any of the others I'm not really sure why I didn't. hm. that's wierd.

Yeah - but I dont' know if the book was that good. You know what they say about bestsellers.
