Did anyone notice how many of the movies nominated for the Best Movie Oscar were books first?

  • Seabiscuit (an aaawwwweeesome book) was first a book by Laura Hillenbrand.
  • Return of the King was of course based on The Hobbit books by J.R.R. Tolkien.
  • Lost in Translation (ok, nothing here)
  • Master and Commander, was taken from the swashbuckling novels of Patrick O'Brian.
  • Mystic River is also a novel by Dennis Lehane.

Also Cold Mountain (one of Laura Hillenbrand's favorite books BTW) was also a book first.

    What's up wit dat yo?

    Has anyone read these books?

Lost in Translation wasn't a book first. That's why Coppola won for best original screenplay.

Return of the King won for best screenplay adaptation.
