Eye in the Sky - Phil Dick
Enders Series #1 GAMES - DONE ! , first sci fi book ever... entertaining..nothing to party on about
#2 SPEAKER FOR THE DEAD...-DON!... second sci fi book ever red.. umm i guess it was ok
#3Xenocide... done!... third sci fi book ever read.. ehh better than the second.. worse than the first
and #4 - orsen scott card
Naked - david sedaris
Ten poems to change your life - roger housden
marvel magnaverse - DONE ! , just interesting quick reading
da vinci code - dan brown DONE ! , amazing book must read
digital fortress - dan brown good book very much like the da vinci code.. but less milo rimbaldi and more NSA goodies
nine stories - salinger
rainbow six - clancy
Heroes, Gods and Monsters of Greek the Myths - DONE ! , should have been a quick reading but i took my team.. interesting to find out who was from where..etc.. good stuff.
The Treasured Writings of Kahlil Gibran - k.g.
the prophet - k. gibran DONE ! , Amazing thinkers book.. must read...and then read over again
Voltaire collection - voltaire

Yea i went nuts.. it'll take me 6 years to read them.

AI Summary

ilikebirds' book-buying spree in September 2003 resulted in a 99-buck splurge with a 10-buck discount at Barnes & Noble. He purchased 14 books, including the Ender series, and expressed excitement about reading them. His enthusiasm was met with similar responses from other users, such as thatdarngirl, who mentioned buying six classic hardcovers during a sale... Six years to read them, indeed.

ilikebirds #14 ilikebirdsOG 2002

speaker for the dead and xenocide were decent.. not great books on their own i think. you need the ender love from the first book

forrestina #14.1 forrestinaOG 2002

i forgot to finish xenocide. i'm going to do that now since i have no tv.

ilikebirds #13 ilikebirdsOG 2002

ENders game, since all my toys were taken away from me on the plane.. i had a book to finish.. it was my first scifi book ever. i never thought that i'd ever read one of these books.. because it's all gay and stuff.. but now that i AM GAY.... the book was entertaining.. it wasn't a great book.. .like the davinci code.. .. but it was good.

ilikebirds #12 ilikebirdsOG 2002

Just finished the digital fortress.. i picked it up like 5 months ago.. read the first page... it was great. but i had beer to drink.. but now. i read the whole thing.. in about 3 days.. and good stuff.. whats next..

esprit15d #11 esprit15dOG 2003

let me know when you read 10 poems, i saw it in books a million and almost picked it up. But since I see you're gonna read it, I'll check it out after all (good to have a reading buddy:P).

ilikebirds #11.1 ilikebirdsOG 2002

i'll let you know. i've been preoccupied with partying and doing stupid stuff.. but once i calm down .. or dead tired.. i'll get back to it

esprit15d #10 esprit15dOG 2003

I'm reading the davinci code right now (well, everytime I visit Barnes and Noble or books a million). I'm at like chap 180 or something. Basically I found out who the Teacher is. That book is really good. - a truly gripping mystery. Just when you think you know where this thing is headed, or feel there can't be more to the story, the very parameters you were using to judge the universe by shift. The only drawback is it occasionally stalls in symbology lingo. Dan Brown obviously is knee deep in this stuff.

I heard a movie is coming out, but I know its gonna be awful, because no studio in America could resist playing up the...um...how to say it...shady parts of the book.

ilikebirds #10.1 ilikebirdsOG 2002

yea the book was great. i dont know.. if i'd say it stalled.. but it slows down the story only to explain more of the symbols..etc.. which i found helpful.. though sometimes too much.

i've never read a book that was turned into a movie.. i'd love to see how their visualization is compared to mine

esprit15d #10.1.1 esprit15dOG 2003

Yeah, comparing my vision with others would be cool.

How do you visualize the characters? I would love to see if your visions and mine line up.

ilikebirds #10.1.1.1 ilikebirdsOG 2002

robert as a short little mexican migrant worker with a mustache and a russian accent
sophie as this tall swedish butch like football player..
Silas as Omar epps
jacques' as puff daddy
the teacher Michael jackson

- hey i actually have the book ONLINE to if you want it so you dont have to run to barnes and nobles..

esprit15d esprit15dOG 2003

i should have know i would of gotten an answer like that.

as far as the book goes..link me

ilikebirds ilikebirdsOG 2002

haha ok seriously..

jacques, jon voight
sophie, either milla jovovo or some thing reddish long haired actress
robert , michale vartan the guy VAUGHn from alias

/~tpham/files/

esprit15d esprit15dOG 2003

i know it is tough. i was all like "yeah, lets compare" then drew a blank when i went to fill in names.

lets see....

jacques - robert duvall (jon voight is good. i also pictured him a little rotund for some reason)
sophie - julie bowen (was she a red head?)
robert - michael vartan? that hot? LOL, that's funny. I was thinking more Greg Kinnear
remy - the mascot for incredimail
teabing - a criples alfred hitchcock

and thanks for the link

ilikebirds ilikebirdsOG 2002

finish the book yet? it's been a week... i did it in 3-4 days.. come onnnnnnnnnnn what did you think?

esprit15d esprit15dOG 2003

Oh, my bad. I finished it about an hour after you sent me the link. ok. I warn you, i have a tendency to over analyze, because, well, nevermind why. but i'll try not to.

  • on writing: typical mystery, bare bones, because its plot driven; no jane austen here
  • on plot/suspense: absolutely riveting. there were a couple times when i thought i was gonna go into cardiac arrest. at the risk of spoiling this for someone else, (1)when sophie found the key, (2)when they threw the bar of soap in the back of that truck (3)when they had to escape that psycho bank owner who almost killed them (4)anytime silas showed up(5)when sophie called the british equivalent to 911, and fachs answered and said that he made some mistakes and come down to the station AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST (6)when i found out who the teacher was...certain moments were just awesome - everything you want in a mystery.
  • on filler: a little unsettling. the author was very indifferent and academic in his approach to the symbolism, even some of the more traditionally "bad" ones, but hey, im a jw, it still rubbed me the wrong way.

    overall, a pretty good book.

  • ilikebirds ilikebirdsOG 2002 esprit15d

yea i focused on the suspense... that was great.. made me not want to put it down. the whole symbolism.. i found it interesting.. but didn't meditate on it much.. just what i needed to know to get me to move on in the book. good times.

    esprit15d esprit15dOG 2003 ilikebirds

    Good times indeed.

    esprit15d esprit15dOG 2003 ilikebirds

....aaaaaaaaand I finally got that PHI reference you made a few weeks ago.

    ilikebirds #9 ilikebirdsOG 2002

i decided to go with the digital fortress instead.. and i'm already hooked.. geez. this dan brown is good peoples

    ilikebirds #8 ilikebirdsOG 2002

the myths book was entertaining. i'm upset that there were no hercules stories... i mean.. come on

    iwz #8.1 iwz

    what's next?

    ilikebirds #8.1.1 ilikebirdsOG 2002

eye in the sky.. phil dick... i'm pushing off the enders series.. because if i read one.. i'm gonna have an urge to read them all.. and that's a long time.. books are so thick.. i hate that i bought them paperback... i love hardcovers .. so much easier..

    iwz #8.1.1.1 iwz

is that a book about satellites or something?

    ilikebirds ilikebirdsOG 2002

    no..
a big pulse generator zaps 8 people.. and the book explores their altered worlds.. and how they deal...

    ilikebirds #7 ilikebirdsOG 2002

Finally finished the da vinci code.. took me three days. thats a new record. for a guy who used to hate reading . anyway .. the book was 5x's better than prey. the ending was sorta kinda expected.. but definately twisted. and i wish it would tell you what the fuss was all about.. but they really can't... seriously book was amazing. i suggest it for all.

    ilikebirds #6 ilikebirdsOG 2002

I'm half way through the da vinci code.. and maybe i can finish today.. wow.. this is unheard of.. i hated reading... but once i got a copy of the prey from deanbag.. i liked it.. anyway.. the da vinci code is so good. i was up till almost 3 reading it. couldn't put it down.

    deanh77 #6.1 deanh77Founder

wow. I got you back into reading? cool.

BTW, I want my book back! you can borrow something else if you like. I think I've got a copy of The Hitchhikers Guid to the Galaxy. You should read that.

    ilikebirds #6.1.1 ilikebirdsOG 2002

i have 14 new books... plus biblie literature.. soo... hitchikers guid to the galaxy.. has go to wait.

and no you didn't get me back into reading.. You got me to start.
before that all i'd ever read was what was for school... and meetings ...
thats it. i was never interested in reading. always had something better to do. but now that i'm old and stuff.. i read. and wear depends.

    deanh77 #6.1.1.1 deanh77Founder

wow. wow. wow. its good to have geeky friends, right?

    ilikebirds ilikebirdsOG 2002

THat was the most important fact i learned through highschool. Geeky friends are the best... copy your homework... hook you up with tricks for passing...ok ok.. cheats. whatever. they ruled.

    tesoro #6.1.1.2 tesoroOG 2001

SO funny! we were just talking about that book out in service today..hitchhikers guide to the galaxy..what are the odds.

    tinser tinserOG 2002

lael was talking about that at applebees too

    tesoro tesoroOG 2001

    what the heck! really? wacky

    tinser tinserOG 2002

its the new melville topic of conversation

    ilikebirds #5 ilikebirdsOG 2002

SO i got 9 of my 15 books yesterday... and i read the marvel mangaverse thing.. took my like 30 minutes. it was interesting. spun all the characters into different stories. bruce banner becomes thor through dr. strange. etc . anyway .. after that i started to read the biggest book .. to get it out of the way.. amazing.. THe Da Vinci Code... couldn't put it down.. within the first few chapters.. theres already a murder and implication towards a highly important crptological puzzle. anyway.. good times.

    iwz #5.1 iwz

did they find the Rimbaldi scrolls yet with the picture of the girl in hidden ink?

    ilikebirds #5.1.1 ilikebirdsOG 2002

hahha i swear.. alias stole the whole ribaldi plot line from this book.. i downloaded the ebook too.. so i can read here at work... kazaa rules. i have nothing else better to do here.

    tinser #4 tinserOG 2002

    prey was amazing

    ilikebirds #4.1 ilikebirdsOG 2002

once he went to the fab plant.. i couldn't put the book down.. but ... then it ended... and the ending was horrrrible

    tinser #4.1.1 tinserOG 2002

    really? I liked the ending

    ilikebirds #4.1.1.1 ilikebirdsOG 2002

really ?i dont know... it was sorta.. anti-climatic..
maybe the build up was so good.. that it's conclusion though great in any other book was dead here. perhaps perhaps perhaps

    tinser tinserOG 2002

yeah, thats true...the build up was so incredible, that i could see the ending being a bit of a let down...

ugh, its so difficult discussing the end of a novel when you can't actually give it away

    ilikebirds ilikebirdsOG 2002 offtopic

maybe you think i'm incredible and dont want to let me down.. so lets dicuss our future...

    tinser tinserOG 2002

lets make the future the present baby

    ilikebirds ilikebirdsOG 2002

and lets make the present... hot.

    tinser tinserOG 2002

    its gettin' hot in here........

    bozo bozoFounder tinser

whoa, maybe you two should start a thread called "get a room!"

    iwz #3 iwz

i've read that myth book. interesting stuff.

    thatdarngirl #1 thatdarngirlOG 2002

My mother, sister, and I did the same thing a few weeks back. They were having a sale on all these classic hardcovers, buy two get one free, so we bought six of them. I'm in the middle of the Count of Monte Cristo at the moment, most of it is pretty exciting!

    ilikebirds #1.1 ilikebirdsOG 2002

yea i love hardcover . i hate paper backs. they just seem flimsy and cheap.. but i got the whole ender series in paperback.. because..i'm poor

    perrin #1.2 perrinOG 2004

That's such a great book. The movie was pretty good too but movies can never compare with books.

    socalgal #1.2.1 socalgalOG 2003

I agree, there's much more that happens in a book than in the movie. sometimes they can make a movie out of a great book and it'll fail cuz it doesn't capture the whole momentum

    perrin #1.2.1.1 perrinOG 2004

It's hard to capture what people see in their imagination as they read a book. It happens even with the people they cast in roles sometimes. You just go they totally don't make me think of that character from the books.

    forrestina #1.3 forrestinaOG 2002

when you're done may i borrow it?

    thatdarngirl #1.3.1 thatdarngirlOG 2002

You can borrow it now, I made that comment in September!

    forrestina #1.3.1.1 forrestinaOG 2002 offtopic

sahweet may i have my brand new cd too?

    ilikebirds ilikebirdsOG 2002

only if you promise to hold me close and sing me a song... a song of happiness and jo

    forrestina forrestinaOG 2002

    jo! who is jo?!

    ilikebirds ilikebirdsOG 2002

half of half of k-ci and jo jo

    forrestina forrestinaOG 2002

    this makes it better?

    ilikebirds ilikebirdsOG 2002

    it sure makes it chocolatier

    thatdarngirl thatdarngirlOG 2002

Haha yeah, esepcially since I even had it with me last time I saw you! I've been carrying it around in my bag.
