Sad Music
There's a chunk of my CD collection that I rarely listen to. Some of it makes me nostaligic for good times past: Day 19, Professor Plum, Midtown, Saves the Day (Can't slow down), Strung Out, etc. These CD's remind me of the people I used to listen to them with. Goldfinger is the CD I always listened to going down the shore, and whenever I listen to it now, my car wants to drive on the parkway. Anything ska reminds me of good times with Katie, which we never have any more, which sucks (I'm not blaming Mike). Times when we were unencumbered and used to hang in the Budd Lake Diner completely care-free.
There's another chunk of stuff that ex-boyfriends gave me. Unfortunately, while listening to some of my CD's, my fiance developed a taste for some of these bands. Jawbreaker, Braid, Jawbox, Shudder to Think. Sometimes my fiance is listening to these bands when I walk into his room, and mixing old and new men like that is volatile, at best. If I listen to these bands while in a good mood, they make me sublimely happy. If I'm in a bad mood, though, they make me extremely sad, thinking about my lost first love. (Those moments usually only last a minute or two.)
I'm thinking about this now because "Something to Write Home About" by the Get Up Kids is in my CD player right now. It's the CD I bought right before I went to pioneer school, to reward myself for spending a year not buying anything for myself, as a pioneer pauper. Those were the 2 weeks when I really fell in love with my fiance. That entire album reminds me of the way we were, god, three years ago. It makes me think of how exciting it was to think about the rest of my life with him, while I was going through the experience of pioneer school. We're going to play a few of those songs at our wedding IN 24 DAYS, and I'm sure I'm going to cry.

Not really song or artist in particular...certain tunes (from any song) like a chord that's off or something like that, will put me in a weepy mode. It doesn't have to even be on that long, I have to change it immediately.

I don't have one particular band, but one or two songs here and there, so i've made myself cds to play of these...
You're wallowing. Cut it out. Don't make yourself feel worse.
no no it's not to make myself want to commit suicide, just for the long drives home when i want some quiet and peaceful music...
Yea, sometimes you need something calm and pleasant...and yes, on long drives which I love! Sometimes the lyrics to a song can pinpoint whatever feeling or mood I'm in and when that happens, it's a great thing.
Ok, just making sure.
depeche mode and smiths/morissey and the classic old punk was it for me
morrisey so true!
I forgot to add, bryan ferry & roxy music
my favorite sad music is Dru Hill. 5 Steps, Sleeping in My Bed(NOT the remix wit JD) and Not Making Love No More are classics thats are great to listen to during depression. Then...for some reason..Nothing Else Matters-Metallica always seems to work for me..but thats barely cuz i never listen to them nemore.
the cure, the smiths...i am sure i have more. my sisters say i always listen to "blah music"
Oh man, I was gonna mention the Cure too!
i had the whitesnake album on vinyl...that got me through some desperate teenage moments.
I love sad music, it actually helps me get over sadness. For me, it doesn't perpetuate it really.
I have a chunk of cds in my collection I regularly turn to. Some are
Damien Rice, Aimee Mann, Death Cab For Cutie and there's more, just can't think of them at the moment.
