bands/artists you like/ezabels favorite artists!!!

jp by jpOG 2003 · Dec 7, 2004 · 368 views

In all my years here at IanZabel.com in the music forum, I have never seen probably the simplest yet most identifying music topic possible. This topic tells us pretty much everything we need to know about you and your music tastes. What bands do you associate yourself with? What bands do you like or spend at least some time listening to? Not something where you like one song, make it a band that you at least follow a little. I'm gonna go based on my itunes playlist (thats why itll be alphabetical), not everything I really listen to but the ones that I do I will list. Bands I especially like will be given a star.

I'm changing this up a bit...now you have to add some to the list or second bands that I have...obviously you dont have to list like 300 of them like me...but name a few, then we can determine ezabel's favorite artist!

fivezero #11.1 fivezeroOG 2003

I endorse all of these bands, except Denali, 35007, and Icarus Line simply because I don't remember hearing them. Anybody wanting a completely original music experience should listen to Mars Volta. The sexy and comical Eagles of Death Metal are a hoot. Muse is amazing too. Queens new album comes out in March. Can't wait.

fivezero #9.1.1.1 fivezeroOG 2003

i was gonna go and drag my gf along, but i have a wedding to go to. i hope they tour again. i don't think it'll be for a while because i hear Glassjaw is going to make the rounds soon.

flomojopoanode #9.2 flomojopoanodeFounder

I think I agree with Joey Cape (lead singer of Lagwagon) that The Beatles are one of the most overated bands of all time. Right before covering "strawberry fields" he says, "we take a kinda crappy song...and make it GREAT!" Rock on, Joey!

rumur #9.2.1 rumurOG 2004

too bad the new Me First album is probably their worst one to date. Very uninspired.

flomojopoanode #9.2.1.1 flomojopoanodeFounder

yeah, it's not that great at all. A couple songs, though, are really good ones. Heart of Glass is one of them.

I think it's an okay album--maybe because of funny parts. I like what they say when they talk between songs (for the most part).

rumur rumurOG 2004

yea. the dialogue is great.

thatdarngirl #9.2.2 thatdarngirlOG 2002

Really? I think the Beatles are so great. I don't find Me First that wonderful seeing as how all they do is take other people's good songs and re-do them. I could do that too and get money for it.

flomojopoanode #9.2.2.1 flomojopoanodeFounder

I've never liked the Beetles much. I do like the "sgt. Pepper" album...but that's about it.

Me first: Yes, they copy everyone else's songs. Each of the members is from a different band, and each of those bands always write their own stuff. These guys are talented musicians(so were the beatles), and the singer can SING...usually. haha. I like that they take some of my favorite old songs and make them Great. They've also introduced me to some old songs that I now respect.

originalsnob originalsnobOG 2004

I've never liked the Beetles much NOOOOOooooo, say it isn't so. This little factoid could seriously compromise our friendship. Random person "Oh, you know Todd Bastidas..." Originalsnob "WHAT WHO?!? I know NOT of this Todd of which you speak."

thefunkyfresh #9.2.2.2 thefunkyfreshFounder

i love me first, i think spike has such a good voice, and for the most part i love their take on those old songs

T
#9.2.3 toxicgirlOG 2003

oh my, and i thought you were nice

shessomepirate #9.2.4 shessomepirateOG 2004

i agree that they are really overrated but theyre still good

fivezero #9.2.4.1 fivezeroOG 2003

Yeah, this is where I stand. I give respect where it's due, but their success was more due to the time and place than amazing talent. It counts though. They did amazing things. Their music, TECHNICALLY, wasn't genius or anything.

iwz iwz

yeah. IMO, they changed the world. which counts for a lot. so it just depends on what you're talking about when you say they're overrated.

fivezero fivezeroOG 2003

I agree that they've changed the world. And they've shown us that it doesn't amazing talent or style to do so.

T
toxicgirlOG 2003

as a hardcore beatles fan i will rationally and reasonably respond to this comment. i agree that they are overrated in the sense that it's kinda trendy to say you are a beatles fan. it's cool to say you are into a band that helped lay the foundation of rock today and the beatles got tons of exposure for this. but the trendy fans who talk a mess about the beatles are the ones that know two songs.

i am a fan of the beatles cuz their music was simple and fun and the stories surrounding their songs are interesting. it was a cool time in history, bands today just don't have that kind of chaos surrounding them anymore.

flomojopoanode flomojopoanodeFounder

I, personally, am unaware of how they "changed the world", or at least the world of music...

They must have been a success for some reason. And, like I said, I love the Sgt. Pepper album. I'm all about being fair. I don't think the beatles were out of this world musicians. That's why I think they are overated. There are many more technically talented musicians than the beatles in this world.

Usually the most technically talented bands only appeal to other musicians. There's some real talent that's popular, too, these days....it's just much more rare. This is where I think the beatles don't make the cut, because I appreciate more technical music. That's MY OPINION.

On the other hand, there are few who capture the love of the world, and become considered "the best band in the world". For this I give them a lot of credit. It's not an easy thing to make a living in the field of music. They did it. They did it big time. Kudos to them.

I hope this explains where I stand on the beatles.

fivezero fivezeroOG 2003

I agree with this 100% Keyword: "technically"

flomojopoanode flomojopoanodeFounder fivezero

good, I'm glad I made that clear. : )

fivezero fivezeroOG 2003 flomojopoanode

i'm no musician myself, but I can appreciate talented musicians and I like to think i know what quality tunes sound like. while the beatle's songs are catchy and creative. i find the music to be very flat. some of it is VERY, VERY good though.

ok, i'm looking at what i'm writing and i, uh, just need to stop writing. BAH to all of it...everyones a critic...

T
toxicgirlOG 2003

i totally agree with you. i never said they changed the world or were out of this world musicians. i just like em cuz i do.

THE END...please?

Yeah, i know! Will he ever quit?

we're totally quitting
