Best rap rhymes out there

jp by jpOG 2003 · Dec 28, 2004 · 18 views

Rap and hip hop is a genre where its artists don't play instruments. What, exactly, are they doing then? Many of them rely on frosted beats and deep bass, but a certain few have an undenyably awesome flow. Who are the best hip-hop lyricists? Who are the cheesy ones who have no real skill but still pop out one radio joint after another? And most of all, what are your favorite lines of all time? Make sure it's appropriate before copy and pasting, obviously...

Skills: Not saying I like them, just say they got skills at writing and rhyming. But most I do like.
The Notorious BIG
Mos Def
Talib Kweli
Twista
Big Pun
Ludacris
The Beastie Boys
Run-DMC
Jurassic 5
A Tribe Called Quest
Busta Rhymes
Eminem
Nas
Naughty By Nature
Eric B. and Rakim
KRS-One
Kanye West
Tupac
Outkast (Bombs Over Baghdad..WOW)

Overrated: Good but people give them a lot more credit than they should
Snoop Dogg (Drop It Like Its Hot has required like no rhyming skill whatsoever really, but still was an addictive song, older stuff better. Nuthin But A G-Thang? Awesome.)
Dr. Dre (Same)
Jay-Z
Fabolous
50 Cent and the whole G Unit outfit...very annoying, yet somehow addictive to party to
DMX

Sucka MC's: They may be good for partying and radio jams, or maybe even not, but really not much to offer the rap genre
Nelly
Lil Jon and his strange buddies
The whole Cash Money outfit
Ja Rule (so bad)
Chingy
Joe Budden
Fat Joe and his little posse

My favorite rhymes:

Big Pun, "How We Roll"...this sample flows probably better than any rhymes I've ever heard. Man that Pun could flow.
Aiyyo I want it all you can call me greedy and superficial
long as my crew's official and pulls they pistols soon as I whistle
I'm tryin to triple a million and split it three ways
Joe the God, Full Eclipse, and myself - that'll be the day
I need a way to get it already got the ambition
Start the ignition, watch for the NARCs in the marked Expedition
I'm on a mission which requires a higher position
Desire and vision keeps the fire inside of me glistenin

AZ, Sugar Hill
No more cutting grams, and wrapping grands up in rubberbands,
i'm a recovered man, our plans ta discover other lands, suburban
places got me seeking for oasis, cristal by the cases, ladies of all races
with dime faces

Talib Kweli, "Lonely People"
I want God to smile on me
But see, fame is a drug and you wild on E
Celebrities decorated like Christmas trees
Got complex like they want a Christmas Eve
Sing a song to yourself and you stand alone
Get nominated for a gold gramophone
Walk the red carpet, left your man at home
Security snatchin' people camera phones
You got rose gold yellow bottles, pink Cashmere
So ahead of the trend, that's so last year
Last month, last day, last hour, last minute
Your pursuit of crew is so passionate
Throw the cash in it, laugh in his face
If it's def or anybody who don't stay in his place
So popular can't go no where, folks stoppin' ya
Might want to check a thermometer
When you go to a movie heat rises
Surrounded by people still lonely, that's why you need disguises
Probably

Snoop Dogg, "Nuthin But A G-Thang"..the lyrics site is unedited but I'm listening to the edited version so I'm filling that in...
It's the capital S, oh yes, the fresh N-double O-P
D-O-double G-Y D-O-double G ya' see

Droppin' the funky tracks that's makin the suckas just mumble
When I'm on the mic, it's like a cookie, they all crumble
Try to get close, and your bound to get smacked
My lil homie Doggy Dogg has got my back
Never let me slip, 'cause if I slip, then I'm slippin'
But if I got my Nina, then you know I'm straight trippin'
And I'm a continue to put the rap down, put the mack down
And if your woman wanna trip, I have ta' put the smack down
Yeah, and ya' don't stop
I told you I'm just like a clock when I tick and I tock
But I'm never off, always on, 'til the break a dawn
C-O-M-P-T-O-N, and the city they call Long Beach
Puttin' it straight together
Like my homie D.O.C., no one can do it better

Notorious BIG, Juicy
Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis
When I was dead broke, man I couldn't picture this
50 inch screen, money green leather sofa
Got two rides, a limousine with a chauffeur
Phone bill about two G's flat
No need to worry, my accountant handles that
And my whole crew is loungin'
Celebratin' every day, no more public housin'
Thinkin' back on my one-room shack
Now my mom pimps a Ac' with minks on her back
And she loves to show me off, of course
Smiles every time my face is up in The Source
We used to fuss when the landlord dissed us
No heat, wonder why Christmas missed us
Birthdays was the worst days
Now we sip champagne when we thirst-ay
Uh, damn right I like the life I live
'Cause I went from negative to positive
And it's all...

Beastie Boys, "Root Down"
I Kick My Root Down
I Put My Root Down

It's Not A Put Down
I Put My Foot Down
And Then I Make Some Love, I Put My Root Down
Like Sweetie Pie By The Stone Alliance
Everbody Knows I'm Known For Dropping Science
I'm Electric Like Dick Hyman
I Guess You'd Expect To Catch The Crew Rhymin'
Never Let You Down With The Stereo Sound
So Mike, Get On The Mic And Turn It Out
We're Talking Root Down, I Put My Boot Down
And If You Want To Battle Me, You're Putting Loot Down
I Said Root Down, It's Time To Scoot Down
I'm A Step Up To The Mic In My Goose Down
Come Up Representing From The Upper West
Money Makin' Putting Me To The Test
Sometimes I Feel As Though I've Been Blessed
Because I'm Doing What I Want So I Never Rest
Well, I'm Not Coming Out Goofy Like The Fruit Of The Loom Guys
Just Strutting Like The Meters With The Look-ka Py Py
'Cause Downtown Brooklyn Is Where I Was Born
but When The Snow Is Falling, Then I'm Gone
You Might Think That I'm A Fanatic
A Phone Call From Utah And I'm Throwing A Panic
But We Kick It From The Root When We Break It On Down
Jimmy Smith Is My Man, I Want To Give Him A Pound

The Beastie Boys, Egg Man
We all dressed in black we snuck up around the back
We began to attack the eggs did crack on Haze's back
Sam I am down with the program
Green eggs and ham Yosemite Sam
Come Halloween you know I come strapped
I throw it at a sucker K-pap
You made the mistake you judge a man by his race
You go through life with egg on your face
You woke up in the morning with a peculiar feeling
You looked up and saw egg dripping from the ceiling

A Tribe Called Quest, Scenario (Busta Rhymes rhyming)
Watch, as I combine all the juice from the mind
Heel up, wheel up, bring it back, come rewind
Powerful impact BOOM! from the cannon
Not braggin, try to read my mind just imagine
Vo-cab-u-lary's necessary
When diggin into my library
Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh!

Ludacris, "Number One Spot"
I'm never goin nowhere so don't try me
My music sticks in fans veins like an IV
Flows poison like Ivy, oh they grimy
Already offers on my 6th album from labels tryin to sign me
Respected highly, HIIII MR. O'REILLY
Hope all is well, kiss the plantiff and the wifey
Drove through the window, the industry super sized me
Now the girls see me and a river's what they cry me
I'm on the rise, so many people despise me
Got party ammunition for those tryin to surprise me (surprise!)
It's a celebration and everyone should invite me
Roll with the crew or meet the bottom of our Nikes (blaow!)
Explorer like Dora these swipers can't swipe me
My whole aura's so MEAN in my white tee
Nobody light-skinded reppin harder since Ice-T
You disagree, take the Tyson approach and bite me!

Those are just a few of my faves.
