Songs that display incredible musical ability
What are some of your favorite songs based on something that just makes you go WOW! Could be a harmonious voice, insane drumming, the perfect guitar riff, a thumping bass line, or even the perfectly-timed triangle "ting!"
My faves...
listen to Yesterday's Rising's "Time Holds The Truth" at the beginning...insane double bass action.
Strung Out "wrong side of the tracks" the whole song's drumming is incredible. Also by Strung Out, "Firecracker" has some cool rhythms, the combination of all the instruments is great.
Less Than Jake's "History of a Boring Town"-its not as "wow" as the others, but the guitar and melody is just very catchy and addicting.
Metallica's "Enter Sandman"-I don't know if this song displays incredible musical ability, but the drums and guitar are awesome.
Millencolin "No Cigar-I love the intro.
No use for a name- "International You Day" and "Nailed Shut" the drums and rhythms are awesome. I think No Use's newest album is probably their best musically...you may disagree since many people are drawn toward the older stuff bands put out, but the music is awesome.
Rage "Killing in the name of" and "Sleep Now in the Fire" are very cool musically.
OK your turn

yes: awaken and close to the edge
yeah the guitar is dominating, but the bass and drums, keeping the rhythm solid i think is amazing
YAY, ever seen em do it live?
howe bout Tales from Topographic Oceans, esp the drum solo between White & Squire??
it's actually the most simple 'riff's' and rhythms that baffle me, not music that is overly technical.
a perfect circle
the floating 10 note ring modulated appegrio in 'hollow' over 3/4 rhythm
The rhythm guitar in "stranger" baffles me, and it's really a simple riff, but it's really hard to get the same feeling and sound out if it because it's such a stuttered slurring country pick
there's tons more, and that's just guitar
and josh freese, the drummer, he's probably played in more bands then you know, and would probably be suprised at which ones (both studio and live)
winona's big brown beaver
one word. claypool.
excuseme?
Primus dude, please tell me you are kidding...
he's a bit too young
never listened to too much primus, a little bit
PRIMUS, woot woot!!!
i love the newest strung out, there's so much amazing stuff going on in that CD.
and i agree with socalgal... i love rage too, i saw a taped live version of "know your enemy" that was sick
"Marathon" by Rush is an awesome display of guitars, bass, and drums.
Hard to beleive its only 3 guys, eh??
God, I hate Rush! It's like Alvin & the Chipmunks set to a poorly tuned guitar.
wow.
My my... are we TRYING to start a feud? lol first of all.... Rush is an amazing band all amazing musicians, and their drummer is known all over the WORLD...
Second... you watch My So Called Life... this gives your musical opinion ZERO credibility.
Now in place for eZabel 2.0... the /ignore tag... this to be used for those on the eZabel website that should not post during a certain times of the month...
Giggadeee gigaddeee giiiiiigaaaaaaadeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Ok - Britney Spears is known all over the world, does that mean she's an incredible musician?
My-So Called Life is a television show, not music, so your statement makes no sense.
I realize you're cranky from your long work time, but that doesn't mean you should take out your aggression on the rest of us. Midol, Mike.
hahahahahha... yeah but Britney is hot.... case closed.
My So Called Life sucks... katie is sucked into it... and i hate it... and i hate you for getting her hooked.
Midol is good.... VERY good...
I've seen you watch and comment about My-So Called Life on more than one occasion... don't front.
hey My So Called Life was the best!
you know you want to be like Jordan Catalano
nah, i want his eyes... and i dont care if that sounds gay.. they are MAD cool!
Mars Volta - Drunkship of Lanterns. Totally amazing. Nothing like it ANYWHERE, EVER.
Nine Inch Nails - The whole 'The Fragile' album. Chills.
so i'm going to go ahead and nominate ashlee simpson for incredible song talents. she writes all those beautiful lyrics. who else can rival her? and all her music is so innovative. all riiiight.
I think we need some genre Classification up in here. I have so many amazing songs to share with the world. I will list mine by genre, and then you can start checking them out.
We'll start in the Punk Genre: NOFX, Bad Religion, Lagwagon, Strung Out, NUFAN. All amazing.
You Want Specific examples?
NOFX:
"Reeko", "Dinosoars Will Die", "Thank God its Monday", "The Seperation of Church and Skate" from the "The Greatest Songs Ever Written (By Us)" CD
"Irrationality of Rationality" and "American Errorists" from the "War on Errorism" CD.
Other amazing songs by NOFX:
"The Quass", "Whatever Didi Wants", "Falling in Love", and "Perfect Government"
And Many More!
Bad Religion:
"Supersonic", "Evangeline", are just some of their amazing songs. So many of these songs are great! But they are great as a whole, not necessarily just one part stands out. The drumming, the guitar playing, and they way the lyrics mix in, make this band outstanding. And many more!
Lagwagon:
"Burn", and "Billionaire" from the "Blaze" CD.
"Rust", "Coffee & Cigarettes", and "Dischord" from the "Trashed" CD.
And Many More!
Strung Out:
"Matchbook", and "Deville" from the "Twisted By Design" CD.
"Scarlet", "Analog", "Skeletondanse" and pretty much every other song off of the "Exile in Oblivion" CD.
"Everyday", "Savant", and "Mission to Mars" off the "Elements of Sonic Defiance" CD.
And Many More!
NUFAN:
"Angela", and "International You Day" are terrific from the "Hard Rock Bottom" CD
"Justified Black Eye", and "51 Days" are great older songs from the "Leche con Carne" CD.
"Chasing Rainbows", and "Not Your Savior" from the "More Betterness" CD.
"On the Outside" from the "Making Friends" CD.
And Many More!
any other classic punk besides bad religion??
how classic do you want me to go? I didn't get into punk until '95ish. I should have put Face to Face in there, too...
oh really? i'm sorry....i thought you were into the earlier punk too like GBH, DRI, TSOL.....
who are they?
you're kidding right? never heard of black flag? circle jerks? agent orange? all the same classic punk!
those are my bands. hit a lot of those shows back in the 80's. LOL *i'm so old - lol
I know who THOSE bands are, though I've never really listened to them. (black flag, circle jerks, and agent orange) But I don't recognize those acrynonyms (GBH, DRI, or TSOL).
i'll burn you some songs when i get a chance.
TSOL, DRI and GBH are early 80's punk bands that were influential to a lot of the later punk bands....NOFX, face to face....
TSOL

yay! i can't wait, thanks!
So DRI. That name sounds so familiar. I think NOFX sings about them in one of their songs. Anyway, I was listening to them, and they remind me of "sick of it all". They're pretty cool.
i dig them!!! i used to have a jacket that had their "symbol" on it. LOL yeah it was the early 80's. thought i was cool....LOL
bad religion-yes very good. i must say i find pennywise-at least their drummer to be quite amazing. how do you drum that fast?
Bands of Undetermined Genres:
RX Bandits (they are sort of like the police and sublime...mixed):
"Dinna-Dawg (And the Inevitible Onset of Lunacy)" and "Never Slept So Soundly" off of "The Resignation" CD.
Bela Fleck and the Flecktones (a band that takes blues, bluegrass, jazz, and funk, all fuses them into one. Rarely any singing): (thing to look for: Bass. This bass player is one of the sickest I've ever heard.)
"Leaning Tower" from their "Little Worlds" CD (Disk 2)
"Next", "Snatchin", and "Sleeper" from their "Little Worlds" CD (Disk 3)
And Many More...In fact the bass player, Victor Wooten, has done a lot of stuff on his own (more of a Rock genre, but it definitely varies):
"Are you ready, baby?", "My Life" and TONS of other amazing things he does from the "Victor Wooten: Live in America" CD disk 1. (live as in, he plays live in front of an audience. He's amazing)
Also from Rx Bandits off Progress:
In all Rwandas Glory. Such an amazing song.
Classical Guitar Genre
Here are some KICK BUTT musicians. They can do stuff on a guitar that will blow you away.
Leo Kottke
Stephen Bennett
Tommy Emmanuel
Clive Cussler
I saw the last 3 guys live. It was WOW. Stephen Bennett was amazing, and really funny. Tommy Emmanuel is disgusting. He played "dixie" and "yankee doodle" on his guitar at the same time. AT THE SAME TIME! He was a little cocky, though. I want to go see Leo Kottke play live sometime...who's with me?
yes, several metallica songs are musically incredible. I also find DreamTheater to be incredibly talented. How can you play one song perfectly for 24 minutes? they are crazy.
Pretty much anything that Maynard James Keenan or Billy Howerdell works on is mindblowing, in my opinion
what kind of music do they play?
A Perfect Circle - i'm sure you've heard of them, and Tool, Maynard is the vocalist of both of those.. and Billy Howerdell (guitarist) has worked with David Bowie and Tool and he wrote basically all the music for A Perfect Circle
Maynard's also worked with Rage, Deftones, .. among others
A Perfect Circle is pretty much my favorite right now... hard to classify what kind of music it is, i don't know, rockish, but very melodic, haha i don't know
I love the stuff Maynard did with Tori Amos. Very cool.
yeah! his voice is just beyond belief amazing
Rage did an amazing performance of "killing in the name of" they were so excellent live!
right now the song that just gets me is Mr Brightside from the Killers. I am so in love with the lead singers voice live!
also i forgot U2. they always have something to say and with Bono's voice he can really deliver REAL meaning behind his songs
yea i am totally addicted to the Killers song - wow. It is SO amazing... I listen to that CD over and over again.
