Indeependent
All things Indie Rock...This is prolly my favorite genre of music because it's so broad! And they're not afraid of the synthesizer, the cowbell, or the sha-lala's! Lyrics that make absolutely NO sense unless of course, you have an open imagination. This is fun music folks.

This is an FREE indie music festival. Artists in the past have included Death Cab for Cutie, Blonde Readhead, Modest Mouse, The Shins, etc... Lineup for this year is yet to be annouced. I'm going. Are you?
Wow, that's great! I've never been to Coney Island either.
whoa! admittedly, coney island is a lot more fun as a kid. favorite memory: myself, mel, jewy, and five other girls all crammed in one tilt-a-whirl. one girl said she felt nauseous and the rest of us were scrambling to try and avoid her cos she looked like she was gonna hurl.
Modest Mouse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Count me in!
and of course: Death Cab For Cutie. Check out their new video!! It's called Title and Registration.
My quote on the perception of independent music:
"If Sid Vicious was so punk, then I guess I'll start shooting junk, They were on a major label."
for the love of nancy ( http://www.myspace.com/
This Postal Service video cracks me up! It's directed by Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite) We Will Become Sillhouettes
That song is so lovely. The video is kind of neat. I like the look. This makes me wanna direct SO bad. I KNOW FOR A FACT that i could direct better than that. Man, what a world..
one of my favorite albums of all time. Thanks for the video.
Some definitions/blurbs:
it's ROCK and it's on INDEPENDENT labels.
"indie rock" has become a catch-all term for music that's slipping & sliding underneath the major media outlet radar.
it means music that sounds like stereotypical brit-indie. Brit-indie apparently created the genre. In the UK, it's just "indie" - no rock. 60s influenced pop music of all shades, aware of punk rock, but not really taking too many pointers from it.
most indie listeners do like a lot of other stuff. they're eclectic people but indie is where their tastes intersect.
Ok. enough for now!
Saw this band the other day...completely awesome. They're called Nicole Atkins in 3D and someday they'll be working on a soundtrack for a Tim Burton film, I know it! Beautiful.
i like this!
WOW i like this a lot and wish i didn't have plans tonight so i could go see them!! Her voice/singing style sorta reminds me of Fiona!
Heads up! me and Frest plan to go on the 24th! They're playin The Saint. Oh crap, but that's a thursday and some people may have meeting :(
ooh not me not me !! i wanna go!! oh wait... dang i think we're doing something that day.. :(
you better figure somethin out mango!! mid-week partying is the best! lol
trying to keep up with me? hahah
Yeah, they're pretty good. I was impressed when I saw 'em. Cute and sweet stuff. I may go if I don't find something to do.
I'm am interested in ALL things Nichoelle, Nicole, Nichole!!!!
man i love this stuff. Everytiem i get bored of working or whatever I just put that on and I feel so much better and so inspired. It's magical and mystical and I feel like i'm inside a fairytale :)
I brought 'em back from the UK, they're from Dublin : The Thrills. A wannabe Cali band, go figure! They're produced by the same guy backing Johnny Cash and The Walkmen. It's sunshine pop...go get some. They're most known for their song Big Sur.
duh so that's why they call it indie *slap*
indie is wearing a red peacoat with a hole in the armpit and conducting a self-undulgent stoner rock band with a carrot-like candle stick. YOU are indie, my friend!
do i have to like the music though?
hahahaha
no really i didnt know that's what indie meant, man im can't believe it
haha no you don't have to...this has now sparked my interest in finding some satisfying definitions of the genre. Off to google!
I don't have any songs to post cos I'm poor, but I'm going to reccommend that you all check out Tilly and the Wall. Saw them last night. They opened for Bright Eyes. They have no drummer-just a girl who tap dances for "percussion". Very 60's style musac.
listen to my fave song "reckless" here:
http://www.myspace.com/
ha ha...are they hiring?
do you tap? they also like bang things together like garbage cans or old leather suitcases
i tap! ***shuffle stomp shuffle stomp shuffle hop toe shuffle stomp***
I can do that!! Seeee..you shoulda took me with you last night! haha
Tegan & Sara - Walking with a Ghost

oh yeah, I love this song.
I can listen to it all day...and I have lol
its funny, I've heard this song on 106.3 a few tiems and liked it a lot, and I read a little about Tegan and Sarah, but I never connected the two. now I can go out and buy it. thanks
