The ongoing music trivia game

jp by jpOG 2003 · Jun 6, 2005 · 274 views

How well do you know music? Here's the way the game works: I will make a music trivia question (or, to get started, several questions) and then you will answer it. Then you make your own question. We will continue to go on and on and on, answering each other's questions. When you make a question, rate it from a 1-point question (easier) to 3-point question (harder). As we go through and people answer questions correctly, we'll rack up some pointage. I know it's very easy to look things up on the internet and there's no way to tell if you are "cheating", but see if you can get it without research.

Also, when you answer correctly, it would be good to make more than one question, so more people have an oppurtunity to answer more questions.

(1 point): What band had the song "April 26, 1992"?
(1): What rapper had the 1994 debut album "Illmatic"?
(1): What is the name of the Oasis album that contained smash hit "Wonderwall"?
(2): What rapper guested on the Beastie Boys' track "Get It Together"?
(2): What is the name of the record label started by Brett Gurewitz?
(3): The Band got their very simplistic name while touring. What is the origin of this name?

thefunkyfresh #13.1 thefunkyfreshFounder

i think it was a guy named bobby b. grimes who, ironically, as soon as he invented it, ran out of the house naked and took a dump in the street to celebrate

jp #12 jpOG 2003

new rules...you only get points for answering the question if you ask a question after you post your answer! keep it going!

thatdarngirl #11 thatdarngirlOG 2002

I just like to ask the questions.

(2) In a Beatle's song, John clarifies who the Walrus is. Who is it?

thefunkyfresh #11.1 thefunkyfreshFounder

contrary to what ferris buehler will tell you, paul was the walrus. i think.

what the heck were they talking about anyway

thatdarngirl #11.1.1 thatdarngirlOG 2002

Yep..that's right! I don't know what they were talking about tho.. My sister was blasting the White Album the other day and "Glass Onion" came on and at one point John sings "The walrus was Paul" and that just baffles me and I asked my mom why.

hunkpapap #11.1.1.1 hunkpapapOG 2003

i am he as you are he and we are all together..

malibu #11.1.1.2 malibuOG 2001

guys stop it. didnt you see the white album cover. paul has no shoes on. he's clearly dead.

thatdarngirl thatdarngirlOG 2002

Haha this made me laugh for two reasons. White album cover is white babe.

Really, though..can you imagine the beatles just sitting around smoking up and laughing hysterically over the idea of making everyone think Paul is dead?

theremin thereminOG 2002

I can see that, actually. It's The Beatles

jp #10 jpOG 2003

new questions...i dont know if any of you saw them deeply embedded in the thread there...

(1) What rapper appears on Bad Religion's "Let Them Eat War"?
(2) What artist is Norah Jones' father, and what instrument is he famous for?
(2) What was Matchbook Romance's original name?

socalgal #10.1 socalgalOG 2003

jp #10.1.1 jpOG 2003

forrestina #10.2 forrestinaOG 2002

Norah Jones dad plays the sitar, but I don't know his name without looking it up

socalgal #10.2.1 socalgalOG 2003

web-toedchloe #9 web-toedchloeOG 2001

What band is composed of former members of Suicidal Tendencies?

socalgal #9.1 socalgalOG 2003

infectious grooves

web-toedchloe #9.1.1 web-toedchloeOG 2001

Ding Ding! I love them. I can recite "Closed Session" and we walked into our wedding reception to the cool guitar riff in "I'm gonna be my king".

flomojopoanode #9.1.1.1 flomojopoanodeFounder

oo, hook me up with that, please? I used to have the CD, but I lost it!

web-toedchloe web-toedchloeOG 2001

Well... Don and I just registered a new web site domain and I think we're going to try to set up an FTP there. I'll give everyone the address when it's up. It should be by next week. Or I could give you a copy the next time I see you (but who knows when that will be.... :( )

socalgal #9.1.1.2 socalgalOG 2003

i can't think on the top of my head....but the one "whipped cream....put it al over yo boddayyyyy" then it goes into the song.....my fav!!!!

web-toedchloe web-toedchloeOG 2001

It was awesome! We think of the 175 people we had, only about 5 people knew the song. But that was the fun of it!

thefunkyfresh #8 thefunkyfreshFounder

(2 points) Which punk/metal band did a rock remix of the onyx song "Slam"?

Then maybe you think you had TO SMACK
Causin rambunction, throughout the sphere
Raise the levels of the boom, inside the ear

and we will wait to hear if matt's questions were answered correctly by myself and web-toed.

And Matt, the answer for the band question was that everyone was calling them "The Band That Opens For Bob Dylan," and they just shortened it.

Next set of questions:

(1) What is the name of Yellowcard's first full length album?
(2) The Ataris released earlier albums Anywhere But Here, Blue Skies Broken Hearts Next 12 Exits, and End Is Forever on Kung Fu Records. What label did they release a short 6-song disc on?
(3) What rap group did the Beastie Boys diss in the song "Professor Booty" in response to that group writing an entire song dissing the Beasties?

thefunkyfresh #6.1 thefunkyfreshFounder

Yellowcard's first: "One for the Kids"
Beasties were rapping at MC Serch for dissing them
Ataris I believe were briefly with Fat Wreck Chords (I remember San Dimas High School Football Rules was on a Fat Wreck comp)

jp #6.1.1 jpOG 2003

Matt sweeps all three questions...

how much was the bonus one worth...i want points ;)

next few:

(1) What rapper appears on Bad Religion's "Let Them Eat War"?
(2) What artist is Norah Jones' father, and what instrument is he famous for?
(2) What was Matchbook Romance's original name?

forrestina #6.2 forrestinaOG 2002

was the ataris one live? they did one on sony (i think?) but it was only like a year or two ago.

flomojopoanode #5 flomojopoanodeFounder

Record company by Brett Gurewitz is Epitaph.

thefunkyfresh #3 thefunkyfreshFounder

Ok my trivia:

(2 points) Who wrote the song "Me and Bobby McGee"?

(2 points) The band "Phil Lesh and Friends" consists of members of what former musical group?

(2 points) The band "Long Beach Dub All Stars" consists of members of what former musical group?

(5 points) In 2000 a show was sheduled at Giants Stadium featuring Rage Against the Machine and the Beastie Boys. Why was the show postponed and later cancelled? (2 different reasons)

Bonus Question: about 5 years ago I went to go see Face to Face play at Irving Plaza. The lead singer for the opening band got on stage and sang with F2F for 1 or 2 songs. What was the name of this singer, what band did he play for, and what did he eat for dessert exactly one week before the show?

web-toedchloe #3.1 web-toedchloeOG 2001

"Me and Bobby McGee" - Kris Kristofferson. Who gets points not only for having a really cool name, but for writing a song that loved so much that my vinyl actually wore out.

Long Beach Dub All Stars - Sublime?

Rage and Beastie Boys show - that whole mess with the cop being shot

jp #3.2 jpOG 2003

Matt's questions: LBDA is Sublime members...but that was already answered.

Rage/Beasties show postponed because Mike D was injured in a dirt bike accident. Later, Zach De La Rocha left Rage, and it was cancelled.

Bonus: (just a guess)-Alkaline Trio Matt Skiba? I believe they were on tour...either that or i'll try Saves the Day's Chris Conley.

thefunkyfresh #3.2.1 thefunkyfreshFounder

1 point for web toed chloe

thefunkyfresh #3.2.1.1 thefunkyfreshFounder
