Page 2 of 3if you like something corporate with a tinge of harder rock, try dropping daylight. their debut album comes out today.
if you like coldplay/clarity-era jimmy eat world, try out forever in motion. his new album also comes out today.
either one of these ftp'd?
sorry, neither is. i might buy dropping daylight, so if i do itll be up.
oooh hotness.....
listen on their myspaces.
ok, its being uploaded now. should be up soon.
if you like maximo park, you might like the lashes
if you like cake, you might like pie
if you lik the bouncing souls, you might like the get up kids
If you like ...... MUsic..
You're an idiot
if you like thrice and good riddance you may like story of the year
the new album seems really awesome! If you like older good riddance, you are in for a treat. Also, I wouldn't exactly relate this band to Thrice or Good Riddance, but certain songs "taste" like these other bands. The Story of the Year is pop, punk, and progressive, with great vocals. Very impressed by this album. (so far)
egggssssactly... that's why it's "if you like"
:)
yah... I guess you're right! (*wave* I can see you right now...why do we keep "talking" without TALKING. We sit no more than 15 feet apart at work, lol. Actually, we just DID talk about that. So this is more for everyone else who moseys into this forum and sees us talking.)
i know riiiiight
michael ian black??
haha, yeah
lol, nice Ian! Great quote Matt!
i have page avenue, but i haven't listened to it in a long long time. i think that was the album before the one you're talking about?
oh wow, forreste, i never even paid attention to your original post with the perishers. i just got them from someone on a mix, and i really love the song. she gave me the whole album now. and now i see you reccommended them almost a year ago! wow. i almost missed out.
glad you like them! :)
if you like heartfelt, optimistic pop-rock, check out sherwood. they are quite good. i believe i ftp'ed them a while ago. ill try to think of who to compare them to.
if you like the donnas, you'll like the muffs.
I dunno who would be a fair comparison but, if you like good music you'll like Modest Mouse =P
I agree, but you have to check out their entire catalog. You can skip Sad Sappy Sucker, but nothing else!
I like SSS but it's just a wacky album and nothing like any of their other albums.
i'm finally downloading a bunch of these bands that jp recommended. looking forward to hearing them!
...Yo La Tengo, listen to The Melody Unit
if you like copeland, try rookie of the year
if you like jimmy eat world and dashboard, try the format
they are ftp'ed now
i saw ian talking about pandora in here already, but todd turned me on to it the other day and I really like it. check it out...
Yeh, I like it. I started it about a month ago. Thanks for reminding about it tho, 'cause I've been getting so busy, I forgot all about the thing.
If you like a song, Listen to it
if you like kenny g, joan baez, or barbara streissand, you may like east german men
or you might like really really good music
if you like elliott smith, you might like jim noir
if you like Weezer, or Green Day, then you will like The Living End, cool punkish band from australia
I like some of the old Weezer, but I don't like Green Day much. I don't know if I'd compare them to Weezer. They do have a Green Day kinda sound, though. Just more rockabilly. I think it's the accent.
Some how I like them more than Green Day. They are pretty cool in short order, with a style that is similar, but not the same, to other bands. What I'm trying to say is they remain unique. I have to admit, I don't think they are fun to listen to over and over and over again.
pretty much just the style is similar to those two bands, power chord rock
yes. the living end is great. their new album i believe is only out in australia, but i might be acquiring it. so i can put it on the ftp if i do. ill keep you posted.
they came out in like early 90s right? i always like the word they use to describe them-punkabilly. i haven't heard too many songs of theirs. i like punk, but i'm not that into it anymore. Prisoner of Society was like one of my theme songs in high school. good recommendation.
punkabilly is a perfect one word description of the living end, not to mention a fun wod in general
Let's try the opposite: I like these bands, recommend some new ones to me (mp3s to downloand preferred)
Jawbreaker
Jawbox
Braid
Saves the Day
Get Up Kids
Taking Back Sunday
Dashboard Confessional
Dismemberment Plan
Face to Face
Failure
Goldfinger
Hum
Infectious Grooves
Strung Out
Thursday
i noticed Homegrown and Something Corporate noticably absent from this list ... also I like the Rancid and the Transplants, for when the good times need to roll ..
I don't have any homegrown albums and I've never heard Something corporate - I'll give them a try. I'm not a huge rancid fan and I've never heard an entire transplants album. Good suggestions.
something corporate is awesome, but i dont know if you would like them from the bands you listed. but give it a try. it's piano-driven pop-punk-emo. i love it. and i also love saves the day, tbs, and some of the bands you like, so you may lke it too.
Wait, is travis from blink 182 in the transplants?
yes. and armstrong from rancid.
Hmm I may have to listen to some Transplant..I trust Armstrong.
it's pretty good stuff and it's not even up my alley. those dudes have SERIOUS attitude.
i made you a station on pandora!
"Web-toed Radio"
http://www.pandora.com/?sc=sh19474859
i put in all the bands you listed, and the first two songs it started playing were by Sunny Day, and Candiria
you can give songs thumb up/down to customize it.
They Walk In Line, these guys are pretty good!
You're awesome!!! Thank you!
let me know of any bands you like! i'm listening to The Acadamy Is... right now, they're pretty good stuff too
Ugh - the second I started listening, a couple of attorneys came over with some ditaction I have to transcribe! I'm typing as fast as I can to start listening again.
Haha - what the heck? I went from TGUK to the Pernice Brothers to Van Halen. How did Van Halen get in there?
haha, thumbs down thumbs down!!
Where's the thumbs down option?
click on the picture for the song, gives you some options.
I can't give it a thumbs up or down from that menu; it just lets me buy the song or album.
ah, you must have to create an account before that works. (it's free and they don't spam)
ohhh, or maybe because it's a station I created, you can't modify it.... hmmmm
Yeah, I created an account. I didn't pay for the membership, but I have an account.
oh you can pay for membership now? interesting. yeah, must be because its's actually a station in my account. i guess you'd have to recreate the station on your own account to be able to rate songs.
Hmm... maybe I should create my own station. When I registered, it gave me the option of paying for another level of the station, or something. It had to do with how many ads were on the page; the more you paid, the fewer ads. I have the window minimized to their little player, so ads don't bother me anyway.
Ok - I created a station with just Jawbreaker as the influence, since they're my favorite band. So far, it's been another jawbreaker song, nirvana and now paris, texas, who I've never heard, but I know were on polyvinyl records the same time braid put out their second album, so they seem pretty good.
if you like mary's danish and X you'll dig the waxapples:
question for ftp users...
do most of you use itunes? i have some m4a formatted songs, the itunes format. should i even bother uploading?
please mp3 only - we don't need any DRM
if you've bought songs off the iTunes Music Store, we can't play them. if they're your own CDs that you've ripped using iTunes into MP3s, then that's fine.
oh yeah. and if you like jack's mannequin and mae, give waking ashland a try. http://www.myspace.com/wakingashland
those are two good bands...
what's with all this myspace crap? bands can't afford their own domain names anymore?
i dont know...when you click on listen to music on a lot of bands websites it sends you to my space.
i totally love jack's mannequin
everything in transit is an awesome album.
if you like the bouncing souls, check out the loved ones.
http://www.myspace.com/thelovedones
fun, windows-down punk anthems.
zzz
i don't know if i like the bouncing souls, i need to find out
haha, I read this band as "the love dones". lol.
woah kam did photos for them in philly
whoah they sound better than they did back in 04 haha
yo is there any of this on the FTp
u can download 4 of their songs from that link jp posted.
i dunno if i would compare them to the bouncing souls, maybe a little, i would say more like new found glory, or maybe saves the day?
or maybe green day
....lauren hill and old soul girls groups. you should check out floetry. they just scored a grammy nod for best urban/alterative song of supastar w/ common. hints of jill scott or eykah badu. check em out. www.myspace.com/floetry
just beautiful voices. and i love their hair.
if you like the RX Bandits, taking back sunday, and sublime, listen to Monty. They are great!
The Rx Bandits are mine.
Well check out Monty.
dibs on sublime -specifically "what's my number"
5446
I almost made this my pin number so when I had to get money I could just sing and remember it.
if you like vanilla ice cream, and really boring people, you'll love Jennifer Aniston
if you like fire, and other interesting things you'll like Angelina Jolie
HAHAHAHA you're so rad kam!!!
If you like Coldplay, check out Ivory. Awesome, very young band. Great stuff. Support them http://www.purevolume.com/ivory
Shameless plug: If you like Early Pink Floyd, Early Jefferson Airplane, Early The Beatles, King Crimson, The Kinks, The Band, Outrageous Cherry, listen to my band, The Folding Colours - http://www.myspace.com/thefoldingcolours
You guys are pretty good. Very much like Cream, to me, but obviously with less studio pick ups.
Why thank you very much. We talked about rerecording. The question is when.
Get OUT! *literally knocks Robbie over* you know Jefferson Airplane...That is definately some good stuff.
we built this city...
You know that's Jefferson Starship, right? The two shouldn't even be in the same sentence.
it was a joke actually...
Phew!
is jefferson airplane the band that the movie almost famous was based off of or was that creedance clearwater revival(ccr)?
Hrm, I didn't see Almost Famous
I don't hear the similarities in our music yet, but maybe so. Actually, I guess pretty much any 60s/70s band could be easily connected with us tho, with the add of a modern overtone. I don't know. I don't know where I'm going with this. I'm done. heh
if you like rancid and maybe some eminem, then you should like the Transplants
Oddly enough...this is the first time in this entire thread where I've actually considered listening to a suggested band.
woah, you never heard the Transplants before? I thought i'd over-hyped them on here. they're Tim Armstrong (from Rancid) side project. Look for "Diamonds and Guns" (it's from a shampoo garnier commercial, my friends tell me) but I also like "What I can't Describe" which sounds like it should have been written by Dre but then turns punk, in an odd undescribable way, then back to hip hop...
...the backstreet boys then you probably will like other men...
If you liked the Refreshments, you'll like Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers. It's the same band, minus the drug addict they kicked out years ago. They had a song called 'Banditos' when they were the Refreshments, in case you're wondering who they are. Very Southwestern rock feel to them now, but uber-relaxed and fun. I always love their shows. So amazing.
Also, if you like these guys, you'll like The Pistoleros. Same type of music.
If you like Jonathan Fire Eater, you'll like The Walkmen . . 'cause it's the same guys.
If you like Pina Colida's...
you'll like getting caught in the rain.
I can't believe none of us had quoted that until now... lol.
if you like fall out boy, you may like my favorite highway and panic at the disco.
also plain white t's. they are kinda fun catchy pop punk. ill upload their album.
if you like jimmy eat world, check out jamisonparker.
oh wow. panic at the disco actually panned out and became a platinum band and the apple of many a preteen's eye in the eleven months since i made the comparison to what is now perhaps the most hated band on ezabel, fall out boy. yikes. guess i hit it big while simultaneously reccommending a band most of you probably think is pretty annoying. i thought they were kinda cool until i realized they say the same line over and over in pretty much every one of their songs. actually i dont really mind them too much, but that kinda annoys me that they really dont say anything but the chorus over and over again.
haha... so you pretty much succeeded while failing at the same time?
If you like Snow Patrol/The Strokes/Athlete, you'll like Levy.
If you like Men, you'll love Being Lied To
lol..
If you like Women, you'll love getting Your Heart Broken.....
and vice versa
Enough with the brooding and wallowing. It's unattractive.
I'm not really trying to get you to be attracted to me. Or have you hook me up with your friends. I was trying to be humorous...
Yeah, but years of the same joke? Not funny anymore. And I meant attractive to anyone around you; "unattractive" as in the opposite of charming and pleasant to be around.
Well obviously i'm not trying to get you to hang out with me either...
Wow, totally missed my point.
lol... ok.. both of you shutup before i give you wet willies... and yes... in your EAR pat...
clowns have been around for like hundreds of years... and lots of people find them still funny... either that or you are deathly scared of them.
your opinion is only one of many. some may find it hilarious, some may find it sad....either way....its all a difference of opinions.
i find it funny. cause he'll give the male perspective and doesnt realize that males are 100 times worse. ;)
lol... you of all people should know how wrong it is to throw a generalzation out like that...
i dont verk vit de males. cuz i used to BE one.
name that movie!
(hint: pierce brosnan)
i'm not throwing out a generalization.....what're you talking about?
Seriously, guys are way worse, and you will never see me contest when a girl says guys are mean or boys are stupid or men are evil. And there are only a few bad girls out there, its just that i've found them.
hahahahaha... i have to agree with you on this... you have found alot of them... i had a few myself...
well when you're as devastatingly handsome as we are, you get all kinds...
hey man... i cant argue.. when you are right you are right. This face..... is such a curse.
hahahha, so funny. maybe you guys had girl problems, because you're both really GAY! hmm, food for thought.
we had those problems long before we discovered our special love. And john naked...
hmm this is true. I mean... believe me, ive seen john naked... plenty of times... just so you guys know.
This has really gone downhill. Next thing you know we'll be talking about baby powder...
lol.... aww man.... im trying to decide if Ian would make me delete this thread....
If you like Saves the Day and Fall Out Boy you'll like Lucky Boys Confusion.
if you like a combination of Hot Hot Heat, Alkaline Trio, and My Chemical Romance, try Nightmare of You.
dude you mean if you like "the cure" and "morrissey" and "the previous brand new album" then you will like this
previous brand new album? i dont see that at all. i was gonna go for a smiths comparison.
i just listened to their album, def more tame musically than alkaline trio or my chem... lyrics were a tad risque
yes they are definately tamer. i was going with hot hot heat meaning musically and my chem/alk3 lyrically. although they are more risque than them, i mean like the morbid undertones. superhero nailed it with the cure comparison too, they are alot like the cure. and morrissey/smiths. incidentally, i saw them last friday at ramapo college. they were really good.
what i was referring to was a couple of their songs had a lot of sexual references
sorry. i worded my sentence wrong. what i meant to say was they are more risque, like youre talking about. but i mean the references to alk3 was due to some of the morbid undertones of some of their lyrics.
ah...
someone at work just burned this for me. i haven't listened to it yet. i like elements of all three of those bands so maybe it's worth checking out sooner than later.
if you like keane/coldplay.....you might like thirteen senses and embrace
If you like Flava FLAVE you will be addicted to oversized clocks.
if you like Strung Out, you may fancy A Wilhelm Scream.
do you know exactly what a Wilhelm Scream is?
No, actually, I was kind of curious...let me know if its something bad, take them off the playlist.
checked urban dictionary, they say its a sound effect used in movies, they give the example of Indiana Jones.
Guess its not something bad. Why'd you have to scare me like that?
i was just curious if you knew, lol.
i love the Wilhelm Scream. a LOT of directors and sound designers slip into into their movies. kind of an inside joke. the Wilhelm scream is in TONS and TONS of movies. whenever i hear it i laugh so hard and rarely anyone ever knows why and when the moment is right to explain it, i've already forgotten why i laughed. so, yeah, that's it.
so its like a generic scream used in many movies? ill have to see if i can listen for it, id probably recognize it. i read that its used in star wars, indiana jones, and more.
i read a while ago that back in some old movie there was a guy that screamed, and they sampled him doing a couple different ones, and every now and then directors will use them. I think this is the site i read about it a while back: http://www.hollywoodlostandfound.net/wilhelm/
exactly. perfect. thanks.
if you like Weezer, you'll like Ozma.
ozma rule, at least there first couple albums.
i just dled one of their albums... they sound exactly like weezer... i mean, pretty much if you didn't tell me who i was listening to i would think it was weezer
aww i love the tetris song
at our wedding we walked out to Ozma's Tetris Song
If you like The Police, you'll probably like Sting. And if you like Genesis, you'll be a fan of Phil Collins. :)
thanks for that ...

HAAHAHAHAHAHA
OOohhhh, so mean to me. And all I'm tryin' to do is be funny......and is that Kramer? Hahahaha.....'cause it looks like him. :)
If you like old Genesis, you'll like Peter Gabriel. :)
If you like Jimmy Eat World you'd probably like Last Winter. They are a little more emo-ish (think Juliana Theory) than JEW but they have the vocal harmony and cohesiveness of Jimmy. And their emo-ness shouldn't detract anyone, it's not like the cheesy emo kind and not whiny. Their voices are great.
They're unsigned, you can only buy their new album (out tommorow) through their website. Check em out or at least download their songs (they got 3 freebies) from http://www.purevolume.com/lastwinter/music
if you like guinness and st paddy's day you'll like flogging molly. lol
YESSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!
I'll have to listen. Tonic is a good rock band that has a lot of influence from irish folk songs...
Tonic is poppy-rock crap.
well obviously you don't listen to them. Are you irish?
I've heard one of their CD's and I'm not Irish.
Oh well if you listen to their songs and know folk songs you can sense it.
Sense what? That sentence makes no sense.
yo di you seem .... cranky
It's just the music snob in me coming out.
what does music snob have to do with sentence structure. OHHH owned... Sorry, its the Language Arts snob coming out... lol
Music snob has to do with the crankiness - otherwise I could let sentence structure slide.
Yeah they are so good. So upbeat and I don't know just really really like them. Been listening to them a whole lot lately.
if you like gwar and yanni, try old man schmitty and the sloppy joes
more still...
If you like Jimmy Eat World try Number One Gun
If you like music try Gatsby's American Dream
Note about Lucky Boys Confusion: It's so hard to classify them. They are pretty much pop, punk, ska, whatever...with some songs including a reggae twist. They change a lot song to song. Their newest album doesn't include any horns, but they have some poppunk with horns songs from their 2nd oldest. Their new one's just mostly lighthearted poppunk, but its just a lot of fun, that's the only way to classify them I guess, theyre a fun band.
Like Shoegaze?
If you like the composition of Low & the ethic of Sigur Ros, check out A Northern Chorus from Montreal, Canada. You might not think Low nor Sigur Ros, but why would you want copies? That's just the closest I can think of tho. A Northern Chorus, will be playing 28 August at the 169 Bar in NYC. Excellent stuff.
Also check out Bluetile Lounge from Perth, Australia. Not sure if they're still around, but give them a listen as well. Excellent stuff.
ok i'll play.
If you like Taking Back Sunday and Matchbook Romance, you may like Just Surrender.
If you like Sublime and Blink 182 (think a combination of the two: skate/beach/party themed music mixed with the Sublime style) try Lucky Boys Confusion.
**Edit** I thought recently that LBC could be likened to Goldfinger. Kind of fun music that changes genres and occasionally dips into other types of music. Scrap Blink and Sublime, LBC is most like Goldfinger. Same kind of changing genres and simplistic but catchy and fun lyrics.
hmm ok can you send me some songs?? finding their cd in stores is going to be difficult, i can already tell.
Which band?
Just Surrender is the best out of the ones I listed I think, and I listed it first so I assume you mean them. Their debut album just came out. Yeah I couldn't find it anywhere except for a Borders...and it was their only copy. I was shocked they even had it. Best Buy, Scottis, etc didnt. And I wanted it the day it came out so I had to find it.
it's a great disc, you can really rock out to it. I guess it's not the most original idea to make that type of music, but its head and shoulders above a lot of the harder-emo rock genre.
no, i meant lucky boys confusion.
my email address is daniel m hill at Y A H O O - except in between my name there are _'s
hmm wait how can i do this? attach to an email i guess? whats your email?
