new kanye aug. 30
this is one of my most eagerly anticipated albums in a long time-called Late Registration. Supposed to come out July 12, then aug. 16, now august 30 is where it looks like it will stand. I loved College Dropout, it was amazing. I've been bumpin' "Diamonds From Sierra Leone" in my little pimpmobile 318 since late April, when it came out, so this album is a long time coming. Still an awesome song. For me to like rap, it has to be truly an art (Beastie Boys, Kanye, Jurassic 5, Ill Mitch, because so much rap (Lil Jon, Chingy, 50 Cent) is garbage. Yes I said it 50 Cent is garbage. Even "legendary" rappers like Snoop Dogg are obnoxious and overrated, too "gangsta."
Kanye is a creator of music, not just a maker. He doesnt just put random rhymes together about guns and girls over a thunderous beat. He puts together the best beats out there, sampling awesome stuff, such as the spine-tingling "Diamonds Are Forever" sample in his new song. I can't wait for his new album.
And another good thing is, he doesn't curse that much either. I always get the clean version at Walmart anyway, but at least there arent any big blank spaces throughout the song...

incidentally, its my vote for album of the year, beating out No Use, Alkaline Trio, and Mae. It's awesome. The mellowness does seem long, but it's better than 99% of the other stuff I could listen to. The album as a whole was great at first, but it's really growing on me even more.
jp, can you upload the mae album?
It's there on ftp...
this album is extra-amazing to me. i love every minute of it. kanye west and jon brion knocked this way, way, way out of the park. the first album was the obligitory hyped, single-filled, hip hop debut album that everyone loves to love. the second is like: "i have the audience now. let me push the envelope with my creativity and up the rhyme quality and intelligence level, while not making it an overly challenging album that will alienate the fluffy fans." and i appreciate it a lot when artists do that. why try to do the same thing twice?
anyway, GREAT album. the only cheesy song is the "mama" song. what's with it with rappers and their moms? yeah, yeah, i know, i know. . .
Nevermind.
anyone else get it? It's good, but a little too mellow for me. The album goes through a long lull in the middle. I like most of the songs, just there should be some of the lively tracks to break it up. The first few songs are awesome, really gets you into the groove. Drive Slow is a masterpiece, it really is a great mellow song. Then after a few more, it's a little boring, I wish the middle tracks were more like the first few. However, it is perfect for long drives at night, which I found out late last night. Musically it is as rich as any rap album gets. The production is beautiful. Hey Mama is one of the best songs on the album, then We Major and Gone and Diamonds towards the end finishes it off. The highlights of this album are the beginning and the end.
i picked it up and i agree....i *think* i like his first album better. Musically tho, this one's untouchable. i think i need to take that long ride and really give it a good listen tho, I just keep finding myself puttin Gold Digger on repeat :) Song's hot.
I almost fully agree with you. Juuust about. The lull in the middle is amazing.
5 stars from Rolling Stone
9.5 from Pitchfork
cant wait to get this album tommorow...
most importantly, Jon Brion produced the album. he's a very important and innovative producer. does mostly scores for films [some of my favorite] and the occasional album. certainly THIS is why i'm picking the album up.
i was watching def poetry jam the other day and kayne west was on reading a poem. it was entitled someting but when he read it i immediately recognized it as the song "all falls down." parts got cut out the poem to make the song but then again i alwasy did love that song.
crap, I missed it.. that's one of my fav big K songs girl! All I gotta say is...I can't WAIT for his new album to drop. can't wait.
So we got Diamonds From Sierra Leone out on the airwaves right now...GREAT song! He totally disses himself in it which I think is GREAT!
"I was sick about awards, couldn't nobody cure me. Only playa that got robbed but kept all his jewelery. Alicia Keys tried to talk some sense to them, 30 minutes later, seems there's no convincin' them. What more can ASK for, the international (edit) Who complains about what he is OWED? And throw a tantrum like he is 3 years old? You gotta love it though, somebody still speaks from his soul."
That's about when he wasnt honored with anything at the American Music Awards. He gave a speech about how he deserved to win something especially cuz they asked him to perform there that nite lol...he got some love later at the Grammy's tho. What a trip this guy is.
i just love the line "single black female addicted to retail."
