for some reason, you couldnt post replies to my old topic, so im making a new one.

what are the best albums of 2006 so far, with five months complete already? this year is flying.

5. Taking Back Sunday-Louder Now
4. Dashboard Confessional-Dusk and Summer-great summer album
3. The Hush Sound-Like Vines. Great album. Wonderful upbeat summer music.
2. Less Than Jake-In With The Out Crowd. Hardcore ltj fans probably are a little disappointed, because the ska factor is diminishing. but being a fan of upbeat fun pop punk, i truly enjoyed in with the out crowd. there is absolutely no bad quite like less than jake to get me going for the summer.
1. The Format-Dog Problems. While interventions and lullabies was great, dog problems blew me away. MAN! it's good. and not like anything you expect to hear today. they utilized a fourteen piece orchestra to help record. go buy this online now or when it comes out on cd july 11!

honorable mention: saves the day-"sound the alarm," arctic monkeys "whatever you say i am, thats what im not", rookie of the year "the goodnight moon," moneen "the red tree," margot and the nuclear so and so's "the dust of retreat" red hot chili peppers-"stadium arcadium"

still can't wait for: jurassic 5, rise against, the ataris, new found glory.

jp #8 jpOG 2003

also, ive gotten a lot more into the arctic monkeys album lately.

jp #8.1 jpOG 2003

also, angels and airwaves. tom from blink 182's new band. its really growing on me. its kinda spacey, modern-joshua-tree like rock.

jp #7 jpOG 2003

the new rise against is INCREDIBLE!! you have to hear it. once i listen a few more times it will find a place in my top 5.

also, lucky boys confusions new EP is great, even though its only 5 songs. im not sure if i can count that in my top 5, seeing as its only an EP. but its really good.

jp #6 jpOG 2003

dashboard definately fits into the top 5 somewhere. it didnt really get glowing reviews, from what ive seen from fans, but just like ltj, i still thought it was great. saves the day's constant depression has pushed it out of the top 5.

I'm listening to this now - it's ok. Again, very similar to the last album, which I liked. I love Chris' passion when he sings and his arrangements will always be innovative and different. In that way, his albums are ecclectic. However, I think lyrically, this album is not as good as the last one. Swiss Army Romance was his finest lyrical endeavor, in my opinion, and since then, it doesn't seem like he writes with the same fervor. But his last few albums were released with little expectation from the media, and I don't think that's the case with this one. So while it's good, it seems like it's been streamlined for mass appeal. Vagrant keeps doing that to bands.

jp #6.1.1 jpOG 2003

its kind of losing its appeal, slightly. its still good, but it doesnt catch me like it did at first. most albums i really like do the opposite-i don't like them that much, then after giving them a chance, fall in love with it.

This to add to this list:

Gnarls Barkley - St. Elsewhere
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Show Your Bones

Worth giving a listen:

Band of Horses - Everything All the Time

I listened to the new LTJ, and i absolutely HATED it. but i loved the new Red Hot Chili Peppers, it's so chill. but the new story of the year album "In the Wake of Determination" gets my vote for number one.

I still have not heard the new lagwagon though...

thefunkyfresh #3 thefunkyfreshFounder

i didn't really like the new LTJ. they didn't really do anything different from their old records musically, the lyrics were weak, and they just didn't show me anything progressive. i dunno, i couldn't get into it

jp #3.1 jpOG 2003

i know, they didnt really do anything progressive, but thats something i dont mind from ltj. i dont look for clever lyrics or progression from this band...i mean, they are still singing about growing up and leaving town, just like they did four albums ago. thats kind of what i like about them. some people dont like when bands change, and they are all like, oh remember the good old days when my favorite band was good. then when a band doesnt change, people say they arent progressing. so no matter what a band does, some people will be disappointed. personally, i know most hardcore fans love ltj for albums like losing streak and pezcore, but i think they hit their sound with hello rockview. and since then, they have stayed in that sound, and i love it. i listen to them for fun summer tunes, and they never fail to come through.

rocksupastar #3.1.1 rocksupastarFounder

I kinda agree with this... like if i wanna listen to a band... its cause i like their style... ya know? like what would Rage be if they progressed? something different...

but yeah... NUFAN's new cd was kinda lame cause it wasnt anything different... if anything it was worse. But yeah, i gotta hear this cd... is it on the ftp?

jp #3.1.1.1 jpOG 2003

yeah dude.

thefunkyfresh #3.1.1.2 thefunkyfreshFounder

its just that i feel like i've already heard it, i dunno, i feel like what's the point of coming out with a new album if its the same old stuff. not saying they should change completely, but definitely should give me something to be excited about

#3.1.1.3 alexOG 2001

i disagree. the reason i didn't like ltj's new album was the same reason i didn't like nufan's last album. none of th songs were anything special in my opinion. all of the songs ran together, and it sounded like not a lot of thought went into the lyrics, or music.

a band can be progressive, and still remain styalized. NUFAN managed to do this for a long time untill their new album.alkaline trio is still getting better with each new album, and so is social distortion, and strung out, just to name a few. these bands create new and creative, innovative music every time they come out with an album, but they do not lose their style.

i relate less than jake's new album to SNL. SNL used to be really funny, untill they started running out of ideas. now they are just doing the same old crap, but they are still on the air because they are able to living off of their name.

web-toedchloe web-toedchloeOG 2001

I was going to use the examples of strung out and social d as good progressive bands too. Or even RHCP - they've been together and putting out music for over 20 years, and each album sounds fresh. I think most of that is the fact that they put out albums when they feel like it, when they've got enough material.

thefunkyfresh thefunkyfreshFounder

exactly, their music doesn't all sound the same album to album, it gets better

jp jpOG 2003

i guess, but i think when i like a band, if they progress, then thats great. but say if they stay in their "prime," doing what works for them, i'm fine with that too. like saves the day's through being cool. one of my all time favorite albums. while i loved stay what you are, in reverie was ok, and sound the alarm was decent, nothing can compare to through being cool. if sound the alarm sounded like through being cool, i would not be disappointed at all. i dont need a band to recreate itself every album. if i wanted a different sound, i'd listen to a different band. i guess im just easy to please though.

web-toedchloe #2 web-toedchloeOG 2001

I have to add TBS - Louder Now. It's really good.

jp #2.1 jpOG 2003

whoops. forgot about TBS. they would probably be fourth on my list. it was a decent album.

theremin #1 thereminOG 2002

The Life Pursuit by Belle & Sebastian

The Possible Selves album - don't know if it's release yet, but I've heard some songs and they're good

that's all I can think of as far as this year is concerned

jp #1.1 jpOG 2003

i gotta listen to the new b&s. someone gave it to me, i gotta get on that. i like them.

jp #1.1.1 jpOG 2003

i liked it.

modestjesse #1.2 modestjesseOG 2004
