Musical Snob
I think someone called themselves this a while back and it really stuck with me. Maybe it was funky... i can’t remember, but the point is... I think a lot of us really ARE musical snobs. We LOVE our music and its part of us. Music conveys emotions, ranging from ecstatic to depression. I know personally music is a huge part of my life, I always have something playing in my car, at my desk at work, as I go to bed at night and when I’m getting ready in the morning.
From Alex’s journal everyone can tell... we all have an opinion about music. And when someone disagrees with us or insults our taste in music, we feel offended... well at least I do. Because it’s like that person is dissing me, dissing something that is very personal and very much a part of me. Maybe we need to lighten up a bit. If you don’t like a certain style of music… that’s fine. Nobody is forcing anyone to listen to any type of music. If you love ABBA and you think Dancing Queen is a song that we should live our lives by…. hey rock on on man… more power to you. But… that’s your thing… not my thing even tho I feel like I am a dancing queen.
I mean, I really love eZabel for a ton of reasons. Biggest ones are cause of my friends and the music. I learned SO many good bands from Tesoro, 5-0, Hunka, Funky Fresh, Flomo, even SocalGal told me about a few good bands that I would have never found otherwise.
Maybe instead of having a negative attitude about music brought out, maybe we should try to check it out, see what we think... and you don’t like it, well that’s your thing. I know I don’t really like a lot of bands that people are CRAZY about. IE... not the biggest fan of NOFX... I KNOW everyone loves them... and I respect that, and I realize they are a huge influence on punk now a days... but just hard for me to get into them. But I have checked em out, even have alot of their music, but I NEVER would argue with anyone on here about that.
I know I am probably mostly to blame for the drama, everyone knows I have a big mouth. And I hate to lose, I will argue a point until I am dead… and even then, ill probably write out a few hundred pages to read at my funeral to keep the argument going. That’s just me, and im sorry if you guys have to read through my ramblings.
But seriously I think that it’s best to leave out the "Christian conscience" comments or "what’s proper for a Christian to listen to" out of these discussions. We all go to the same meetings, we all read the same watchtowers, we all know the same information. If somebody feels like something isn’t right or not Christian... why not take it to PM. EZ messages can be used to point it out and then there aren’t any fights started or pride to be hurt. Plus it gives Ian a lot less to delete, hahaha. I keep him pretty busy with that as it is.

i hate driving w/ someone and they look down on my music. i feel so defensive, like they're good but it's not the only hting i listen to. sometimes cuz there is sooo much music it's hard to really relate to someone's music likings.
im pretty open to music
most everyone i know i share music taste with and they also hate things i like
I call myself a musical snob all the time and like..I'm cool with it. You don't like my music? Thats fine, I love it. I don't like your music? Well, you just have bad taste but I'll forgive you for it.
woohoo! thanks for the props! haha i agree with you mike..thats a big reason i've always loved ezabel, i have heard about & fell in love with many bands because of this website! i love it!
i feel the same...when someone disses your music, it's like they're taking a jab right at you!
ps...i love a good debate...it's usually all in good fun. unless you make me angry!!! raahhh hahaha (then i really love arguing my point!)
Can we all just agree on a few bands tho that we can make fun of and hate? Like Britney Spears, etc...
Britney Spears is not a band! How dare you call her a band? What is wrong with you? (haha)
Seriously i relate to this very much. My favorite band is one that is generally disliked by the majority and undeservedly so, but what are you going to do? I think I have a band or two in common with most everyone here, but for the most part, most don't have the tastes i do, it just sucks that its not something that people seem to respect.
And I think the thing that bothers me the most is that so many people who like bands do so as a fad and then fight to the death about it.
Example, Nirvana is generally credited with being influential and they were, but they and the whole grunge scene were a fad. A fad that died out. And we hated hair metal, but there are so many that liked it and still do. Its just a cycle i think is stupid.
haha my friends that hate them and i have found it best to just not talk about them.
i LUV the hair bands....im all about 80's dude. we all listen to the hair bands here and crack up and crank the volume up and sing along! LOL
ANNND i dont care how much anyone says they hate them, they'll def know the words to their songs. LOL
nah i LOVE 80's bands... i have sooo many 80's metal bands on my pc and i love to pump it in the middle of the day to piss people off... but EVERYONE knows the words... i could listen to Guns n Roses all day long... Axel is my twin....
you dont have poison....you said they're too lame when i asked you about them....
i cant be picky about what 80's bands i like?
I don't like Poison much either.
thats cool! i like em cause they're fun and they bring back fun memories.
I'm a music snob, but I've definitely calmed down. I love when people love thier music. Whatever, y'know? Good lil blurb there, Mike.
Well said. I think those of us that like to argue, (or at least, won't back down once an argument has started), seem to forget that we can do a lot of damage by talking about these things in public.
There are people dying in iraq
yeah New Orleans is still under water
While her husband was racing to the hospital because an iraqi woman - his wife- was giving birth.. A marine filled the car with holes because it didn't stop at the checkpoint -killing the pregnant woman and her baby :(
one good thing about living in america is that it would seem we're far off from having an Actual war on American soil... where foreign military units trample on american soil.
TP, your kidding right, I don't like living close to the border with you guys, we might get some spill-over hate.
BUT I guess we can take comfort that it will happen all around us and not affect us
I think the only person here that is kidding is you.. and I think your jokes are way out of line..
I Know what is funny.. And you dont know what is funny.
I'm old and I know funny.. young people aren't funny.
It takes talent for funny.. so silly... funny talents and a funny bone.
You dont have a funny bone.
sheesh
hahahah
i love you
So sorry, if you were expecting a "I love you" return
I'ts just, Thai, I don't have the same feelings for you. I hope we can be friends.
LOL *hugs*
whatever... I never liked you and your dolls anyway..
phoooey
:D
i remember when i was younger, music was SOOO imporant, i basically wouldn't be friends with somoene who liked a different kind of music than me, and it was pretty much the most important thing ever
one of my requirements for a husband was that he like the same bands as me. Okay so this was when i was 16 but still, That's retarted
anyway, i don't know if it's with age and maturity or whatever but i really don't care what kind of music anyone likes
that used to be pretty much the FIRST question i asked when i met people
now it's pretty much the last thing i would even think to ask
and i'm just kidding about Rush and Pink Floyd being horrible, i don't like them really but .. they're not horrible. Alright?! Alright!!
dude this is SO true....when i was younger music was SO important, i knew of al lthe coolest bands before they were popular....had to hit all the shows....adn now...if i hear something i like i'll get the CD or whatever.
when you get older things just change....what used to be so important isnt so much now. LOL
yeah... um thats great and all, you want me to bring you back inside grandma? one more outburst like that and i SWEAR that you will be a nursing home and only choice you will have is what color jello you want for lunch!!!!
was i talking to you kiddo?
I dunno, but i hear forgetfulness is one of the symtoms of Alzheimers...
yes, i totally agree with this..music is still important to me...but not like it was a few years back..i feel like i'm kinda outta that "scene" now...i miss it sometimes, but there is just so much else going on, it's hard to keep up.
oh, but btw...it still bugs me that Austin doesnt like most of my music.
at least he likes goldfinger...i wouldnt have married him if he didnt! hahaha jk jk!
yeah, Chris and I like a lot of the same music, but then he also LOVES Dream Theater and Yes and I can't even listen to one minute of that stuff
and sometimes I'll be cranking like weird independent chick music with piano and yelling and he'll be like "WHAT is that"
haha
but yeah as far as friends go, I really don't care what my friends like as long as our personalities mesh heh
you guys love Sean Paul and are gayzor
sean paul, on the right kind of night, driving around Toms River looking for fivezero.. dude.. that's awesome haha
haha I think I saw Dream Theater and Yes with Chris. It was a long time ago, that's why it's blurry. Maybe he remembers. I think Van Halen too.
it's called a Thread, dude. not a Journal
COME ON
out of ALL that, you pick up on a word? lol you are sick man...
Sooo funny because when I was reading this all I could think about was that I didn't remember Alex writing a journal just that one music thread.
Where was this comment yesterday? Matt, Todd, and I are ready to Royal Rumble!! hahahaha....
You drove the whole idea home nicely though. I give you credit. You are a better man than I. And I guess we are both the same in one respect, we like to argue points.
Ian, delete that malarky I created.
