Buy Kanye West's New Album LOCKED

Kanye West is coming out with a new album, Graduation, on Sept 11. 50 Cent also is releasing a new album on Sept 11.

50, in his typical annoying self, has decided to wager his career on the assumption that his album will outsell Kanye's during the first week. He says that if Kanye outsells him during Week 1, 50 will retire.

That means it's our duty to buy Kanye's new album. Not only because it's gonna rock, but also because it will send Mr. Candy Shop home.

50 Cent is so wack...i think our "never ending rap" thread has better lyrical quality, and we aren't getting paid millions for them.

like, for serious

GREAT album. it has totally grown on me. drunk and hot girls is still not great. but barry bonds, even though its kinda dumb and lil waynes verse is a terrible display of rhyming (he tells us he's crazy like five times and mispronounces words just to rhyme) its still kinda a fun song to listen to.

I'm starting to like I Wonder more too. The climax of the song makes it worthwhile. Flashing Lights is a terrific song, and "The Glory," well, thats my jam.

Early reports put kanye about 200,000 albums about 50...

sorry buy fiddy is my boy. So much of the crap he says or jokes about you actually hear. Kanye isn't bad, he's just like a cursing Will Smith.......

Graduation...

So i like the first three songs. "Champion" has him sounding tight. His flow is as good as it has ever been on that song. It's great. Stronger is growing on me, too, I like it.

By track 4, I started having mixed feelings. I Wonder has a great sample, he could have done something really nice with that one, but Kanye didn't take advantage of what he had there, I dont think. Then Good Life turned out to be great, a nice fun feel-good jam.

Can't Tell Me Nothing is ok for a middle of the album song, but this was pushed as a lead single. It's too obsessed with materialism and money...although i guess he starts by talking about how it was a meaningless life, so maybe it's not as obnoxious as I originally thought.

Then the album goes down...Barry Bonds is a stupid self-promotion, with Lil Wayne sounding like he is in the final stage of throat cancer. Then Drunk and Hot Girls - the worst Kanye song of all time. I can't even get through it. Whats more, they slipped in editing it, and a couple words are left unedited. Not that I care, really, because that's a song I'll never be listening to. I guess it's kind of about how guys try to hard to pick up girls just for a one night stand, and its not worth it...so i guess the message isn't entirely bad, but still not my cup of tea. Plus the song sounds bad. If it was catchy or fun, then it might be a guilty pleasure. So thanks, for not giving me that option.

The rest of the album, I didnt get to yet, except the song with Chris Martin. It's beautifully done. Great song.

Graduation is disappointing because I know how awesome Kanye can be, and he even shows it on this album. Champion is such a great song, from the samples to the beat, and his rhyming is on point. Then he comes along with crap about money and cars and drunk and hot girls. Ugh.

Fortunately, there are awesome tracks on here to keep me listening, while I'm skipping over a few other ones.

i just got done reading the rolling stones article and kayne was saying about how drunk and hot girls he thinks is like the pinnacle of his songwriting career. how it in every way defines his life because everything was always done for a girl. and its his personal favorite of all of his songs. i was kinda looking foward to listening to it. but you trashed it...so..

i agree with this. i feel the same way.

incidentally, my thoughts on cant tell me nothing and why it is not lead-single quality...

it's boring! nothing revolutionary here. simple as that. no really great verses, its kinda slow too. some of his slow songs from before are really inspiring, and have great production, therefore not boring. but this just isn't that outstanding. its ok on the album, but thats the first song i heard from the album, a couple months ago. if i didnt already love kanye, it wouldnt make me go buy the album.

I wrote this in reply to a friend's blog, but i thought you's might benefit from my KNOWLEDGE of caca!

I've had the Kanye West album for about a week and there are three songs on it that I love. The rest have to grow on me. As a whole though I haven't connected with it just yet. I think it's because the last album, Late Reg, totally leveled me from the door. The producer [John Brion] is someone I GREATLY look up to and the collaborators [JayZ, Jamie Foxx, Adam Levine (lol), Lupe Fiasco, Nas, Paul Wall, the Game, Common, Cam'Ron] are perfect, perfect, perfect. Anyway, this new one... I need to listen to it more to see whether I'll say yay or nay.

Yes, Kanye talks about himself nonstop and he's cocky, arrogant, and annoying. No two ways about it. Still, in my opinion, he's produced the most interesting rap/hip hop music you'll find in the mainstream. He just won't shut his mouth about it though and that turns people off. I don't care though. I'm in it for the music. A fact to keep in mind is... Fifty Cent started this feud. He's as cocky as Kanye, just less annoying.

I guess I'll weigh in on who's gonna win... It's SUPER hard to say. Kanye has the American college markets nailed down, but I feel he's neglected the American pop market with his lack of popular collaborators. Now, 50 has come out of the gate with a REALLY awesome single, Ayo Technology. It's got Justin Timberlake and Timberland on it and that's a high selling, money-making, club killing combo, right there. I haven't heard the entire album, but I know 50 is capable of successful singles, even if the subject is in his pants [like that piece of sh*t, Candy Shop], so he'll definitely nail down the clubs in America. Whereas Kanye holds on to the overseas clubs by sampling Europe's techno club standard, Daft Punk, on his Stronger single. So, they are playing to very different audiences-- a subject I could go on and on about, but hey, this is long enough...

This might surprise some, but I'm going to give the nod to 50. He's gets the win by a fender. I have a feeling his new album will be stronger than Graduation. The singles will kill. His videos won't be arty. His collaborators are super popular. Nowwww, I DO feel that is a cheap way to outsell a competitor who's album has fewer popular collaborators, but HEY! They are in a sales battle and sales in a dirty, unfair business. I feel 50 has it nailed down this time around.

PS: In my opinion, Late Registration is better than anything 50 could ever do, but alas, that's not what's on trial today...

oh man im so worried i don't even know what to do with myself

superhero superheroOG 2004 ·

i like 50 because he has bigger muscles. and kanye is good but that "mama" song was lame so he loses points.

punkprincess punkprincessOG 2001 ·

so this is whats going to happen.

kanye is going to win, but b/c this is goign to be 50's "last album" sales are going to rocket....and then in 2 years hes going to come out of retirement, and tons of people are going to buy his album...so in the end...50 wins. even though he loses. genius.

thewalkhome thewalkhomeOG 2003 ·

yo. why you gotta pass on my music business expertise as your own original idea? whack.
