John Hughes/Operation Ivy/Rancid
Ok Jon - right here, RIGHT NOW - i will prove my statement "2 original Rancid band members were in Operation Ivy" - (meaning a large portion of the band, since it had 4 members). I AM CALLING YOU OUT SUCKA!
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia- http://en2.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rancid -
"Rancid is a band that originated in Berkeley, California from the ashes of Operation Ivy, a punk/ska band founded in '87. With vocals heavily influenced by Crimpshrine, a fellow band from the east bay at the time. Matt Freeman and Tim Armstrong (Lint) are ex-members of Operation Ivy."
Actually this is pretty cool for Rancid fans, from the song "Journey to the End of the East Bay" from the Op Ivy FAQ - http://www.operationivy.com/faq.php
"Yes, that song talks about Tim and Matt's op ivy days. "Started in '87 ended in '89, you got a garage or an amp, we'll play anytime. It was just the four of us, yea the core of us, too much attention unavoidably destroyed us. Four kids on tour three thousand miles in a four door car not knowing what was going. Years it would turn out like this. Hell, no no premonition could have seen for." Well you get the idea."
(ooooooo...buck o nine!)

Awww man, Jon. You should've known this. I thought you were a big punk/ska fan. Blasphemy, blasphemy. Also, a side note. The other guys in Op Ivy went to a great band called Dance Hall Crashers.
i will not believe that without proof. please submit links that can not be refuted.
Well here's one. http://www.lilithfair.com/artists/dancehallcrashers/

They arent in DHC anymore, but they started it.
Thats my bad too. I just realized I said the other guys. I meant those guys.
Wait..who did not believe you about this? I thought this was common knowledge. I knew it and I'm not the most musically informed person.
jon hughes loves op ivy. yet hates rancid. it's all so confusing
Well..they do have different sounds. I mean not so drastically different where it would make sense to hate one and not the other. I find it odd that Rancid does not appeal to him with all their old-schoolness style.
the style, one was punk the other ska
you are SO right! also they Operation Ivy was more punk than the ska tinges in rancid. Props to you my brutha!
