only a memory
The other night my friends and i were talking about songs and memories. You know those songs that you hear again that spark up the amazing (or saddest) memory. When you hear them you remember what you were doing, who you were with, what you were wearing.....the memory is so vivid you can still smell particular smells that you encountered not realizing it was going to be such a amazing memory. Do you have a song or songs that bring back those memories?
Everytime i hear the song "BLITZKRIEG BOP" (don't know if i spelled that correctly) by the Ramones its 1986 again, i'm wearing my white 20 hole docs, black ripped tights, a black and white plaid skirt with zippers all over, a pink mesh shirt with my dog collar chain and my hair all jet black and spikey. Me, Gus, Johnny and Mia are front and center. I remember how clammy joey ramones hand felt when he touched it from the stage, how we were chanting "GABBA GABBA HEY" so loud we thought we busted some vocal cords. Then Marky Ramone throws his drum stick out and we're fighting this girl who wants to take whats mine, the drum stick! I remember Gus's "search for animal chin" T (bones brigade) being ripped because he's pushing the girl down so i could get a better hold on the stick. I remember being kicked in the arm by someone's steel toe combat boot which left the gnarliest bruise....but in the end of it all i got the stick AND the AMAZING memory.
So now, what song sparks your fondest memory.....

Heart and Bon Jovi. Lot's of old memories. Makes me smile.
another song that comes to mind with me is an oldie song called "daddy's home" my daddy always used to sing it to me when i was little and when i hear it now it always brings a tear to my eye and a warm memory in my heart.....esp more so now since my daddy is getting up there in age and his health is not what it used to be. but hearing it, i'm that little girl again. =)
hmmm soo many music memories for me...
Jimmy Eat World, the entire self titled album reminds me of me dating katie. That was the cd that was always in my cd player during those times.
Face to Face, one of my first bigger shows, my friends all took me into the pit and threw me in, and wouldnt let me out for the longest time... all i can remember is seeing a wall of my friends anytime i tried to get out hahaha, i hated you all for that...
Enya, lol.... enya got me through 8 months of Chubb with my sanity somewhat intact... haha
Blink 182, Goldfinger, NFG... all my teenage years dealing with girls...
hahahhahaa... and yes, backstreet boys and n sync songs... reminds me of the times Matt convinced me to do the whole N'Sync performance dance and all, lol oh god we sucked... and STILL didnt get any girls that night, lol
Which JEW album do you mean?
Ohh that's right, I forgot they renamed it.
That album was originally titled Bleed America, but I think they changed labels and re-released it or something.
Great album tho!
yep, i was confused i thought it was bleed america... but then i looked on amazon it was just self titled... lol oh well, either way... i loved every song on it.
I remember it came out as "Bleed American" right before 9/11, then they changed the name. Good call on their part.
HAHAAHAHA you guys did the "n*sync" dance?? I would pay LOTS of money to see that!!!!
someone has video of it somewhere, matt had it on cd, but i went through great lengths to destroy all the ones i found.
OMG i wanna see it!!!!!!
no, you will never.... lol ever
mike acts like it was one specific incidence. others know how they preformed at any oppurtunity possible and there are several video recordings. the best was at brianne's grad party.
julia... shutup...what these people dont know what hurt them... but it will hurt you if you keep talking....
i think everyone would greatly appreciate your preformances. it brings cheer to the world. and now the backstreet boys are coming back, and yoiu can newly preform songs.
i stopped doing those parties, too many riots, people tried to rip off my clothing and i had stalkers for years.... price of fame im sure.
mail me a copy, i'll give money for it
shutup....
ill pay TOP dollar for it!!!!
lol, ian can sell it to u
brah... you should have back with this too... we sounded horrible... and danced even worse...
yeah i know, it was an utterly disgusting performance. but the chicks dug it!!!
or maybe not
um no, lol not even a little bit hahahaha, only thing that saved us is my charm... lol
and by "charm" you mean "booty"
nobody is immune to the wiles of the bootay....
HAHAHA.... yeah, those were not good times!! lol, yes they were
ANYTHING Ace of Base takes me back. We thought we were hot stuff listening to that jazz lol...most definately good times
Living in Danger
All that she wants
The sign
It's a beautiful Life
etc.
I heard "Civil War" by Guns & Roses last night on the radio and realized that any G&R song now reminds me of my honeymoon. Donovan and I were listening to the Live Era albums while we drove. Those songs now remind me of the house we stayed in, the good times we had, how we got lost and locked out of our house... Ahhh, good times.
Taking Back Sunday's "Cute Without The E" senior year of high school around winter time.
Any pre-1998 Blink 182, specifically Dude Ranch, reminds me of going crazy in the summer with my cousins at my grandma's house in virginia beach.
New Found Glory's cover album of movie songs reminds me of Vermont, I listen to that on ski trips.
Beastie Boys Fight For Your Right from like this 6th grade party at school.
The Beach Boys of my youth. I'm still youthful.
Basketcase of 5th grade. It was the big song then, and we were all a bit crazy.
Mase "Feels So Good" of about 7th grade or so, that song was cool then.
Eric Clapton's Wonderful Tonight of any girl ive ever cared much about, just because its my favorite love song.
YES Basketcase of 5th grade!!!!! What about
Goldfinger - Miles Away. It was a simpler time.
Yes! I had a Goldfinger/MxPx mix CD that was all I listened to when going down the shore the summer I was 17. Ahhh, great times. I can't listen to that CD anymore; it makes me too nostalgic.
Face to Face: Disconnected.
Reminds me of hanging out all summer long at my old best friend's house. Such a great summer, we rode our bikes all over, all day. And then we'd come home and jump on the trampoline. This makes me happy and sad. I miss my old best friend, he's disfellowshipped. His brother, though, is one of my best friends now, and he's doing awesome, spiritually.
*Hugs* I must hear this Face To Face of which you ALL (rocksupastar n' company) so often refer.
Start from "Dont Turn Away" and work your way up. Your eyes will be opened.
Hearts greatest hits, and Bon Jovi's Slippery When Wet. These two albums remind me of my first game system: Atari 7800. I remember my parents bought themselves those tapes, and conceded to buy me my Atari.
I have lots of memories of songs while riding in that weird trunk seat in the station wagon. A Bangles song comes to mind but I don't remember the name. I didn't care so much about music at that time. I was too busy trying to convince my Dad to let me wear neon Umbro shorts.
Walk Like an Egyptian or Manic Monday???
bahahah i wore orange and yellow ones i inherited from an older cousin and i thought i was SO COOL
my dad wouldn't let me wear them cuz he thought they were immodest. he said it was too easy for boys too look up my pants and see my underwear with umbros.
your dad is sooo italian! (am i right?) my dad had a rule against sheer black stockings. black opaque tights were okay but not sheer stockings.
wait.. how come?
i asked him why many times. i think he thought they were for grown women (too sexy). anyway, hes loosened up about those types of rules but he still has a few.
he musta been a leg man. it makes sense.
ew, nobody wants to think of their dad as a leg man. bleck.
i was so disturbed by that comment i couldnt respond. thanks gab!
my dad is 100% sicilian, baby
my dad's 100% Puerto Rican, baby
so is ur mom
no nooo...she's part irish too! Thats prolly part of the reason me and bri look like night and day.
Literally.
You don't really look like night & day but....
N E wayze, this made me laugh, is there anyone that's not some part Irish, it never ceases to amaze me LOL. Maybe this only goes for me and my friends HA!
I am 0% irish
100% polish
but i guess it's really the same thing
both drink a lot
ha my dad knew no one was looking up my umbros to see my underwear
i wanna be the one by stevie b reminds me of the first boy who told me i was beautiful. he had light brown eyes and dimples and to this day i find that combination adorable.
patience by gnr makes me think of my best friend and me being with a brother who used to kindly take us out in service before we got our licenses we would be disrespectful and sing it in the back seat of his car when he got on our nerves.
finally be cece peniston reminds me of roller skating at the bergenfield rink when i was 17 and we used to go to the sunday midnight skate.
im sure ill think of more to post later.
Fun! I used to go roller-skating EVERY Friday night with my friends and then they turned the rink into a Harley Davidson store..what tha?
Remember that song that goes "I like to move it, move it! I like to move it, move it! You like to..MOVE IT!" they played that alot and it was mad fun to skate to.
reel 2 real! i have a cassette single for that somewhere. that is slightly after my roller skating days.
hahah that is the ultimate rink song and also "this is how we do it"
LOL "hey mickey" reminds me of roller skating.
I remember my mom had this awesome antique record player and while we were spring cleaning we'd listen to her old records of the Beatles and Janis Joplin.
2 more songs that take me back to the fun in the sun days...alone again or by the damned, and 4th of july by X.
Bad Memories: Every time I hear Cold Play's yellow (or just cold play), and the Good Riddance "symptoms of a leveling spirit" CD, I get sad. I remember this girl I really really wanted things to work out with, and how I felt so played and junk. Bad times.
Sorry, I know you weren't looking for this, but it's a strong one.
this is what i'm saying todd, amen. And sorry by the way..
yeah, I read yours and was inspired. Sorry to you, too.
I used to listen to Cat Stevens when I was younger. My Aunt and Uncle gave us their old records, and I listened to them and loved them. When I listen to these records (and now 1 on CD--I had to buy it) I remember some good old days.
The times I'm most reminded of from Cat Stevens: Playing with my micro-machines with my little sister. We'd make "maps" with parking lots, and jug handles using cardboard and markers. We'd drive the cars around, and park them in the parking lots. I think it was a compromise to get her to play cars with me. I think the micro machines had to be families, but I was okay with that. Good memory.
haha, only in NJ would little kids make make-believe jug handles. haha
it's funny... i didn't really start listening to music on my own until I was about 16 or so, so I don't have many strong musical memories.
I do have memories of being very young and listening to my parent's music. Like being up in maine and my dad playing buddy holly on the record player, or being a little older and listening to REM or Living Colour at the house
He he *warm & squishy* Memories like the shadows of my mind....
woah you too? i didnt listen to music until 7th grade
I was just thinking i have strong memories but no real fond ones of songs, like Nothing else Matters by Metallica. I remember listening to that in my cousins' car with my bro on the day my grandfather died...
little black backpack - seriously best song to scream, driving to seaside.
wrong number - the cure - saturday night at my old job, paying more attention to the cd's we were playing than the customers that were shopping
i love rock n roll - joan jett - what goes on on spring break stays on spring break.
That first line is definitely one I've done. Being that I live like 6 miles away from Seaside. Everyone seems to raise their voice when the singer says "don't wanna tango with, just wanna tango with him. I THINK I'M GONNA SMASH HIS HEAD IN."
i love how it slows down - " Iiii can feel you - what about that don't you understand?..." and then it speeds up all loud and awesome
whenever i hear any of the backstreet boys songs, it reminds me of how mike, jesse, and i sang "i want it that way" song at a party at my house back in the day, lol... tell me why-eeee
my little sister used to sing along and preface every line with the name of the backstreet boy whose part it was. it was very funny.
first of all, now that song's stuck in my head-thanks! secondly, you guys should cover that song this weekend!
lol. that was the gayest best thing ever
the funny thing is how you act like singing it at a party at your house made it a one time thing but i remember many times you guys singing this song to a crowd. like brianne's house. other times too. don't act so innocent.
Two Sarach Mclachlin songs, Adia and Full of Grace saddest memories... The summer I got the Surfacing album I was 13, it was the last time I spent quality time with my friend Tessa...few years later (after she left the truth) on a new years eve she died in a car accident that killed her, her mother, and her brother.
everytime I hear loveshack I think of the time me and some friends squeezed into a tiny karoake box in the middle of ocean county mall...we cracked up after singing "Wearin' next to nothin cuz it's hot as an OVEN!" cuz it was crazy hot in there, we were suffocating!
everytime i hear "it's getting hot in heree" i think aobut driving with lynz for the first time after getting ritas and what happened while we were driving.
It was soooo hott that day!
The Get Up Kids "4 Minute Mile" album was the one I bought right before I left for pioneer school. It left me with $37 in my account. I listened to it on my laptop as I studied, and as I fell in love with my husband. I still get misty when I hear "I'll Catch You"...
What does your husband listen to?
Sometimes I'll get in his car and Sinatra will be in the CD player, sometimes it's Rammstein or Front 242. He's very ecclectic.
Front 242! Whoaaaaa, haven't heard them since the early nineties. The new Rammstein is decent. What else?
Umm, Digger, the Misfits, the Cure... Why the interest?
Merely curious.
Waltz With Me by Tonic. Dancing, nervously, with Patrick in my living room. *Nervously, but so happily. And Crush by Dave Matthews Band. I think I got that cd like maybe even the same day as the first time Patrick ever called me. So I hear "crush" and I'm instantly back at the computer desk on the phone, talking to this man who's shouting into the phone cuz he's at a pub but had to call me after great (seen-thru) lengths to get my phone number. *sigh....*
wow. patrick has just been awarded the "Ladies Man of the Day" award.
yeah well apparently it's not quite enough..
i like the way this is written
"its my life" is another, esp the remake, its the past meshing with the present, but when i hear gwen sing it now it gives me goosbumps
haha her and Bon Jovi should do a duet.
hey we can't all forget the day Hank Gathers died.
You know it's kind of funny but I seem to have more bad memory associations with songs and music than I do good.
Though I do have some really fond memories that all come back to me when I listen to the song "Freshmen" by the "Verve Pipe". Ah Good times. lol
stop stealing mine, you jerk
I hope it's not the same memory. :P
Maybe it's just you trying to steal mine. :-P
smashing pumpkins - melon collie and the infinite sadness makes me think of high school. hard.
also aimee mann - lost in space makes me think of many many sad things.
I have several, some fond, some not so fond, memories of Siamease Dream.
I love the Pumpkins. And I love you.
aimee mann, when she was with Til Tuesday has some good and sad memories for me too
How do you Talk to an Angel? I remember bolting out this song at weekly friday night sleepovers.
I'm Too Sexy, Supermodel & most songs on MTV Party To Go albums for diving board runway shows.
oh yeah, i'm too sexy has some GREAT memories!!!
Definitely Verve Pipe - Freshmen
I remember that was the summer I did as much stupid stuff as possible, (it was a LOT of stupid stuff) and i spent the entire month of august grounded. I wasn't even a freshman. But for the life of me, I cannot remember - why.
Okay..I wish that was my memory. I was only 1 at the time..but I wish I could have been there.
OMG hun you were only 1?? WOW suddenly my memory bubble jsut burst....HAHAHAHA
I'm sorry!! :( I wish I was older..I want to see the Ramones! and Queen.
thats ok, it jsut hit me how old i was....LOL
yeah i'm stoked i was able to see the ramones! i would've loved to have seen them at CB GB's
i want to be front row at a Queen concert when freddy mercury comes traipsing out in white spandex with the u front and cape. seriously. queen is so great. i'm so mad that he died before i was old enough to appreciate him.
Me too. In the new system..if he is there..i demand a concert with Killer Queen and Another One Bites the Dust.
and "fat bottomed girls." my dad recently bought this queen live dvd because he loves them so much. all i wanted to see was queen preform "fat bottomed girls" and it was not on there. extremely dissapointing.
also... BICYCLE BICYCLE!
why do girls who've only heard maybe 2 other Queen songs like the song, Fat Bottomed Girls? you guessed it. they have fat bottoms. you heard it here first, folks.
ouch. i just love it cuz its a song my grandfather always used to sing. but i can sing all other queen songs as well. i just love that one cuz of special memories. but what's up with queen redoing so many elvis songs? was freddy mercury in love with the king?
you then are an exception. listen to queen. be close to your grandfather.
hahah thanks. but fat bottomed girls is such a good song. as long as most people know this one and bohemian rhapsody i think they're doing okay.
i luv queen! i remember my sister explaining to me the meaning behind "bohemian rhapsody" so that song always reminds me of she and i chillin listening to the song eating ice cream and her explanation of the meaning.
also "we are the champions" reminds me of winning our championship game in hockey. they guys and i were kicking back in the parking lot after everyone left, still in our hockey gear relishing in the victory and one guy form the opposing team was getting ready to leave and as he started his car, that song was blaring from his radio....we just started laughing and hooting and hollerin since it was fitting for us
yeah. i was seven. i was busy fingerpainting.
ok just kick me....make me feel OLLLLLD! lol
I remember '86. I remember wathing the Mets win the world series and thinking it was possible to see a home team win.
ohh...THAT, i remember.
*kicks with flip-flop
where is my STINKIN mon-eee? and where is my shopping kar-t!
Distintegration sparks a boat load of memories of not so good things I was doing while listening to it.
Box Car Racer brings back memories of driving around in my Jeep with the top and doors off.
The Offspring reminds me of driving through PA while waiting to see my GF at the time.
I have so many memories that are sparked when I hear certain songs but so many of them I'm trying to flush out of my head because I really enjoy the music and no longer want to associate those songs with those memories. Does that make sense?
No i totally understand! disintigration has some too for me.
box car racer....what song?
The entire album, but probably 'There Is' the most, I love that song.
