I'm asking ... please ....if anyone has a hard drive they're not using, that they would be willing to part with for free or a few dollars .... I need at least a 10 gig hard drive, around 20 or 60 would be great too, haha, since I'm too cheap to shell out for a 200 gig drive...

thanks

Hypocrisy alert!

Dan got a free KVM and I offered to take it off his hands, and he turned me down!

superhero #7.1 superheroOG 2004

dude. trade me. if you have a small hard drive (10-30 gig) that you don't need, i'll give you the KVM, it's just taking up space in my closet

deanh77 #7.1.1 deanh77Founder

I would, but there might come a day when I want to make a ridiculously large version of an ipod out of spare parts. hahaha. this idea sounds so funny I might just do it.

superhero #7.1.1.1 superheroOG 2004

that is a funny idea. i doubt you would actually do it though. how would you get a power supply?

deanh77 deanh77Founder

hmm. can't remember the power requirements of a 3.5" HD, but I could probably string 2 or 3 old Laptop batteries together for enough wattage. then I'd have to think about the motherboard. probably one from an old laptop with a busted screen would work. and attach a small text lcd to the serial port and some buttons to the keyboard port. that'd do it.

but I've got other projects going on I need to finish first....which I could really use a KVM for. I hate crawling under my desk to swap cords.

superhero superheroOG 2004

i want to get rid of this KVM so badly i can almost beg you to take it. but, i need a hard drive to backup my mp3s onto. so this is where we trade.

deanh77 deanh77Founder

well now you've challenged me to use it in a ridulous project, so I'm kinda stuck with it now. go on eBay you could probably get a used 20 gig HD for like $20. Here's an auction:

(I honestly don't think I have a spare)

hmm, i'll look around. i may have one or two. is it for a boot drive, or just data?

superhero #1.1 superheroOG 2004

no, just data. i won't boot to it. I finally fixed my computer (ie, formatted and put xp back on.) it works great now (despite being older than dirt. i got it in 1999.) i'm thinking i could use a little more ram (the 320 mb i got is ok) but i want to use it to store all my mp3s, videos, etc. yeah. so if you have one that'd be great.

iwz #1.2 iwz

oh, yeah, i have a drive. i think it's at least 20gb, maybe much larger. not sure.

want it?

superhero #1.2.1 superheroOG 2004

yeah dude! i will give you the kvm i had previously promised to dean! (*or, if you are ok with it, i'll just thank you profusely and give the kvm to dean anyway so he no longer has to crawl under his desk)

deanh77 #1.2.1.1 deanh77Founder

please please, I'm getting old and my back hurts.

superhero superheroOG 2004

hahhahah man i'm really starting to feel bad

iwz #1.2.1.2 iwz

ok, it's a 30 gig Western Digital. 7200rpm. But it might have problems, I dunno.

you can have it. i don't want the kvm

superhero superheroOG 2004

thank you sir!
