Exchange Messaging

Does anybody know how to set up exchange messaging for Windows Server 2003? I'm very new to this, but I'm wondering if there's an easy way to set it up through active directory.

At my last job, whenever there was a new person they would automatically get an email address and an exchange address (ex: matthew.kelly@whatever.com and matthew.kelly@im.whatever.com, or something like that). So this way, everybody could have windows messenger set up and chat with anybody in the company. You could also search by somebody's last name to add them to your buddy list and stuff. I want to try to set something like that up here at my new job.

uhm in active directory there's a place for adding an email address and other info for a user, but you have to have a "Microsoft Exchange" plus appropriate licensing to setup what you're looking to do ... what does your company use for a mail server? Ours uses MDaemon, which is quite robust but not as complicated as Exchange.

let me know ... and when your company wants blackberries for everyone, also let me know :)
