DDR RAM, broken leads
So after grepping google for a bit I haven't been able to find anything relating to this, but I installed a new 512 DDR the other night, had trouble with one of the slots. So to make sure nothing was wrong, I took out all the chips, and tried old chips in the tight slot.
I guess the original DDR i had in there was a bit cheapo, because after a couple times of trying to get it in there (try to loosen up the slot) two copper leads (data bus lines) on the chip on one side got jacked up, so I broke them off not to cause a short and made sure no leads were left in the RAM slot.
Anyway, I don't know if it's by chance, or the fact that the chip is so deeply seated that the copper leads still touch the RAM slot leads, but I did a RAM test over night and it found no errors with the 256 stick.
Bad? Good? I dunno what to think, besides maybe just get another 40 buck DDR thats bigger anyway
but then again, no errors after an all night test!

I've got a pen/marker that writes in conductive ink (typically used for fixing etched traces that etch too much) you can probably pick one up at Radio shack if you want to repair those missing leads.
you put the damaged chip back into your computer? you're braver than I...
Oh yeah i totally forgot they had pens like that, ah man good idea
Well the leads werent shorted, as long as the leads werent shorted, and hopefully nothing is arching across it would either work like it does, or not work at all/or register bad
yeah, I guess that makes sense....
maybe you should go and buy one a them whaddaya callits... computers
maybe you could find one on the so called "Inter-Net", which by the way, I invented.
