remote desktop
I'm trying to implement a remote desktop / remote control program here at work. Somebody mentioned the remote VNC is a security risk (i'm researching it). We use XP and I don't think windows netmeeting works for XP. There is a remote desktop feature in XP but it doesnt log into the same session. It kicks the person out and starts a new session. Any ideas?

As long as you are connecting using the same username remote desktop connection will log into the current session. I do it all the time at work.
HEY!!! Where have you been? Great to hear from you :)
Oh, I've been really busy with RL. :) And I can't logon to eZabel where I work now, so I don't get much time to check up on you guys. Good to see that you're all still doing well, though.
why don't you use remote desktop to get into your home pc and sign on ezabel remotely?
I've been thinking about setting something like that, if only so that I could access my home computer from work. (Being able to access Ezabel would be a nice bonus. :) ) One issue with that is that I have a dynamic IP address, so I'd have to sign up for some sort of ddns service.
http://www.dyndns.com/ is free still, i think. if not, i can hook you up, i have some free slots in my account.
a lot of routers have that built in these days, i mean, come on, people need this and shouldn't have to pay for it
however, if you're REALLY lazy, you could use GoToMyPC
vnc over ssh if you're worried about security.
XP remote desktop doesn't kick the person out, it just starts a new session, seperate, so what you're actually asking about is controlling a remote user session already logged in... right?
I haven't heard of any problems with VNC, I used it to administer my mother's PC. Read VNC website they probably address the security concern...
no your right it doesn't kick them out, but it does lock the computer. if they unlock it, it locks the remote session.
I found a way to use netmeeting so that administrators can connect without having to get permission. you have to activate remote desktop sharing
I think I may have found an acceptable solution. Windows netmeeting actually IS built into XP, it's just not in any of the menus. Click Start... Run and type "conf" and it launches.
